I was in a situation like that for a while. I found it very comforting and I was very sad when it ended.  Cry I'm told that it wasn't good for me at that point in my psychic development but that doesn't keep me from missing it.

Depends on the strength of the connection.  Long term connections tend to cause a deep bond that is difficult to break... even when one party or the other pulls back.  That's why I'm always careful to who I let my guard down... and who I let get close.

The connection was spontaneous and the other party remained aware of me even after the "someone is standing behind me" feeling ended. It is likely, given the strength and intensity of the connection, that the other party is still aware of me.

I am hoping that I will be able to be that aware once I master my current studies. My advisor seems to think that it is entirely possible.

The things you can do with the proper discipline are amazing, really.  Smiley

Discipline will not be a problem. I want this as much as I've ever wanted anything and I will not be stopped.

i use a sandstorm shield myself, its pretty much the natural shield ive had since i awoke about a year ago. its the only one that works for me, because i have such an abundance of energy solid shields tend to explode so i have to have one that keeps moving or boom, auric matter all over the place >.<

Normally I just picture a translucent bubble around me when shielding.  My shields aren't up (consciously) all the time - I have subconscious ones that just naturally spring into place.  No idea how they look as they're just based on willpower.  People don't tell me what to do.  Ever.

I've been experimenting with layers of shielding since PSG last month.  During a workshop there, I learned of the rose shield.  Basically, just visualize a rose in front of you to "absorb" attacks and the like.  I didn't like that very much, so naturally I came up with a very tight shield of rose briars.  Works, since my name in Pagan circles is Kaye Sweetbriar.

I generally do not put up a shield. In the last few years I've found that when I need one (when I'm drained or stressed or both) one comes up automatically, but it usually cuts out everything. For various reasons I've had the automatic shield up a lot in the last 12 months, so I keep it down generally now because otherwise I don't feel quite 3 dimensional. Empathy is another sense to me, so I don't like shutting it out.
If anything negative arises I just 'wash it away'.
