All gleaned from http://www.famous-quotes-and-quotations.com/movie-quote.html

How to deal with death is at least as important as how to deal with life.
~ Admiral Kirk (William Shatner) in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan"

The key here, I think, is to not think of death as an end. But, but, think of it more as a very effective way of cutting down on your expenses.
~ Boris Grushenko (Woody Allen) in "Love and Death"

I'm not bad, I'm just drawn that way.
~ Jessica Rabbit (Kathleen Turner) in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"

Some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
~ Scarecrow (Ray Bolger) in The Wizard of Oz

You know, you haven't stopped talking since I came here? You must have been vaccinated with a phonograph needle.
~ Groucho in "Duck Soup"

...and two of my all-time faves...

Hearts will never be practical until they can be made unbreakable.
~ Frank Morgan, The Wizard of Oz

Now I know I have a heart... because it's breaking.
~ Jack Haley, the Tin Man

I (and now my new husband) have been having issues with my parents pretty much forever.  There has recently been a major blowout that just may mean us not seeing them anymore.

I heard this yesterdayand it totally sums up what we're experiencing with my folks.  It goes like this...

"Parents raise their children to have a mind of their own, and a life of their own. Parenting doesn't mean raising their children to have their minds and live their lives."

Well put.

I'd put this in my sig if there was room. There isn't so it goes here. I found it on Saturday while browsing in Border's. It struck me as very true and I jotted it down even though I didn't buy the book! It is pretty self explanatory, I think.

"A coward is incapable of exhibiting love; it is the prerogative of the brave."

"Friends who fight
Become friends who hate
And friends again
When it's too late."

Ashe of Heaven's little girl said that to him while we were on YaHoo together around the first of the year. With everything that has happened lately, this quote has been much on my mind.  "Out of the mouths of babes" and all that....

Litany Against Fear

Fear is the Mind-killer.
Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Frank Herbert
Dune and its sequels.

Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Breeds that forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms.

Jean V. Dubois
Lt.-Col., Mobile Infantry, rtd.

(Excerpt from Starship Troopers by Robert A. Heinlein)

This quote has always been one of my favorites even if the observation isn't popular.

"I could choose to be purely good, but I will not.

It's actually from a character on an online RPG... but "unknown" works best, since noone would know who that was.

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. "

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The trouble-makers. The round heads in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the
status-quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify, or vilify them. But the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand,
as in what direction we are moving: To reach the port of heaven,
we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it, but
we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"When you plant lettuce, if it does not grow well, you don't blame the lettuce.  You look for reasons it is not doing well.  It may need fertilizer, or more water, or less sun.  You never blame the lettuce. Yet if we have problems with our friends or family, we blame the other person. But if we know how to take care of them, they will grow well, like the lettuce.  Blaming has no positive effect at all, nor does trying to persuade using reason and argument. That is my experience.  No blame, no reasoning, no argument, just understanding. If you understand, and you show that you understand, you can love, and the situation will change."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Finish every day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt have crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense. This day is all that is good and fair. It is too dear, with its hopes and invitations, to waste a moment on yesterdays."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"To laugh is to risk appearing a fool.
To weep is to risk appearing sentimental.
To reach out for another is to risk involvement.
To expose feelings is to risk rejection.
To place your dreams before the crowd is to risk ridicule.
To love is to risk not being loved in return.
To go forward in the face of overwhelming odds is to risk failure.
But risks must be taken because the greatest hazard in life is to risk nothing.
The person who risks nothing does nothing, has nothing, is nothing.
He may avoid suffering and sorrow, but he cannot learn, feel, change, grow or love.
Chained by his certitudes, he is a slave.
He has forfeited his freedom.
Only a person who takes risks is free."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"There is never a better measure of what a person is than what he does when he's absolutely free to choose."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

It is not the distance between your physical bodies that makes or breaks a friendship, but the distance between your hearts and minds. – Kalien

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"It is through the closed mindedness of the few that the majority will suffer. If the mind and heart is open, peace and respect will thrive. Judge not harshly those who are closed minded, for the worst of the harm they beget, they beget upon themselves. Rather, have love and understanding, for it is the fault of societies conditioning that begets their closed mindedness. It is in your love and understanding that you do deny them the ability to harm your spirit. Truly, they are worthy of pity."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"I am the eye with which the Universe
Beholds itself and knows itself divine;
All harmony of instrument or verse,
All prophecy, all medicine is mine,
All light of art or nature;—to my song
Victory and praise in its own right belong."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
