Ok, I was reading a thread where Penth was looking for a good ranch dressing recipe. Well, I found a good one and here it is:


This recipe makes a fairly runny dressing, so if you like it thicker, just mix in 1/3 to 1/2 cup of fresh or jar mayonnaise or sour cream. (or some of each!)

Yield: ~1cup

Mash together until paste:
1 peeled clove garlic
2-3 pinches salt

Put mash into a small jar with lid and add:
3/4 cup buttermilk (or buttermilk powder reconstituted with fresh milk)
2-3 tablespoons lime juice
1 tablespoon fresh cilantro or parsley
1 tablespoon snipped fresh chives
salt and pepper to taste (add last, after first shaking)
Shake vigorously to blend.
Add mayo/sour cream now, if desired and shake again until well blended (or use stick blender).

Use immediately, or store in fridge for up to six days if made with sour cream or jar mayo, four days if not.

And a bonus recipe!

Reduced Fat Goat Cheese Dressing

Yield: ~1 cup

Whisk together in small bowl:
4oz. soft fresh goat cheese, room temp
1/4 cup buttermilk
2 teaspoons white wine vinegar
1 teaspoon dijon mustard
1 teaspoon minced fresh thyme
1 teaspoon minced fresh parsley
pinch of grated lemon zest (or 1/2 tsp lemongrass)
salt and pepper to taste

Thin if needed with buttermilk, yogurt, or sour cream.
Use immediately or refrigerate for up to six days.
