I've found four more vans. One each in New Jersey, Minnesota, California and North Carolina. The one in NC would suit us pretty well. It's an '05 and the price is right. Unfortunately, the whole "several states away" thing. We wanna a "test drive" before we buy so Uni is just gonna have to quit mucking around with out of state vans and get us one "in state" and close enough that we can get to it before someone else snaps it up! *glares at Uni!*

DAMN!

I thought I'd found a suitable van. It's an '09, in Indiana with a sliding door and a reasonable price. Then I got a look inside and the damned thing is a work van with windows like a passenger van. Smiley My exclamation of displeasure startled Skywise.
The Windstar is developing another glitch (in the rear passenger side door) and I really want/need to find us an E-150 before the Windstar falls apart.

I've found two more vans in Indiana but they're both cargo vans -- or so it appears since there are no pictures and I have only the general description to go by. Uni is starting to get the "near here or Indianapolis" requirement but seems to be missing the "passenger/sliding door" part. *sigh* I will persevere.....

I was able to confirm that the van closest to us has the 40/60 door so it's definitely out of the running.

For a few minutes, I thought I'd found a van fairly close but then I found out it had the split instead of the sliding door. *insert exclamation of disgust*

Went through the online listings. No joy.
I'll check the more or less local dealerships later.

*sigh* The only van I've found in DAYS is a 2001 for sale in California on ebay. In all likelihood, shipping would be more than the winning bid.

Skywise was considering checking out one of my out of state finds. I checked the dealer's site.... and it's been sold.  Smiley
Checked another "out of state" that was reasonably close and IT has been sold too....  Cry

I have found another van. It's a '99 and it is IN INDIANAPOLIS! And the price is less than $4,000 so we wouldn't have to adjust our budget. Yeah, Skywise is gonna hear about it!

We're currently going over the misgivings that the van would have to overcome for us to buy it. The biggest one is the gas mileage -- NOT stellar, followed by the fact that it is RWD. The Windstar is FRD but I've yet to find an E-150 that wasn't RWD. It's older than I like and the handy "grab bar" that the newer models have is absent on the '99. How much rust there is would be a factor too.
Skywise says we "may" check it out tomorrow.

Found another van, a 2004. It's in Missouri and on ebay. It looks decent from the pictures and I really wish it was closer.

Skywise has been doing some thinking about the whole vehicle thing and came up with a proposal. We’re a two vehicle family and intend to stay that way, it’s just too damned inconvenient to only have one vehicle when repairs need to be made. For years we’ve had a car (a Taurus) and the van (a Windstar). The van is 20 years old and the Taurus isn’t much newer (an ’01 or ’02) and both need to be replaced at or before Skywise retires. Right now, the only thing the car is used for is for him to drive to work. As a family of four adults, it’s really too small to be our “daily driver” and doesn’t have nearly enough cargo room for our needs. So what he proposes is that instead of having a car and a van, we get two vans. We didn’t have time to discuss it before he left so I don’t know if he’s thinking of two E-150s or an E-150 and a minivan like a Freestar. I told him that I was in favor of the “two vans” idea so we’ll be talking more about that over the next few days and I’ll be adjusting my “hunt” accordingly.

We've definitely decided to get two vans, one will definitely be a Freestar (more on that in a minute) and a E-150 when we find one.
The Town & Country we looked at today was a disappointment, overpriced and no warranty. I told Skywise about my internet searches for Freestars last night and he was interested so I started searching when we got home. We found TWO within easy driving distance, one on the way to Indianapolis -- he drives past the place twice daily -- and another we usually drive past on weekends. One's an '04 and the other is a '06. Both look to be in good condition judging from the photos and we're currently leaning toward the '06 which has a higher price tag but lower miles and two bench seats in the back rather than second row buckets and a third row bench. They're both white so painting would have to be factored in but Skywise is cool with that so it's all good. So I won't be doing any E-150 searches today. We'll see about these Freestars and maybe get one and THEN I'll get my manifestation skills to work on finding the perfect and affordable E-150. But for today, I'll conserve megabytes!

Skywise has left for work and will be driving past the dealer with the '04. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't say "what the hell...." and stops for a quick look.

He didn't stop but he did slow down and spotted it on the lot and was able to confirm that the dealer is where we through it was. I don't know if he's going to detour and go past the other lot or not. Wouldn't surprise me if he did.
