I used to have one similar to that. Two words of warning: when assembling, don't over tighten the screws as they can strip out easily, and do make sure to check them periodically and re tighten, as they tend to loosen with use, and can then wobble and strip themselves. If you are sure you won't need to disassemble it in the future, I would think about using thread lock on the screws for this very reason. Also, the top rails that form the canopy are NOT meant to carry any real weight, so heavy curtains on them is right out--they bend. I used sheers on them with great success, but I once hung a shirt on a wood hangar on a rail for thirty minutes while I was in the shower, and when I took it down, the rail was a bit warped from the weight. Not much, but it was only a shirt!! Honestly, if you can find a decent head and foot board set in wood, it isn't much of a trick to build a canopy for it that will be much sturdier than the metal. On the other hand, it will cost you more in time and effort, and you may feel the metal one is a better deal. They are beautiful, and with gentle use, will last quite a long time.

That IS a gorgeous bed!!

Yes, it is! We haven't definitely made up our minds. I want to do more searching. My original search was for unfinished wood so I could paint it black. I'd still prefer wood if I can find something in a Mission or Shaker style canopy bed. Our bedroom is about 12.5 feet square and I'm looking for something that won't "overwhelm" the room.
On an unrelated note: a favorite earring that disappeared some weeks ago has turned up. How it got to where I found it, I don't know. Friendly spirit maybe! LOL

That's one pic... but not the one I'm thinking of.  I'm beginning to wonder if I accidentally deleted it.... bah.

Silly me.  I have my moments I guess.  (I'm too young for Alzheimers...!) Maybe I can get away with blaming baby brain and stop worrying about it.  If I have it somewhere it will show up eventually....

Thanks though! Cheesy You're so helpful!

So, what do you mean, "baby brain"? I know "blond moments"!

Black Rose

Grin  Preggo-brain?  We're having a baby in May...

I have blonde moments alot too, though I'm told quite frequently I am now firmly in the red-head category... when did that happen?  (I still say my hair is mostly blonde, darnit.)

(And thanks for the welcome back.  Smiley I don't spend much time online these days unless it's playing WoW...which really doesn't count as "online time" IMO.)

And Penth... I'm totally jealous of the canopy bed... I had one growing up and loved it. They're gorgeous and even cooler if it's something you're working on yourself.  (And JCPenney's might have linens... or Kohl's - I don't know if you guys have that over there...)

We have both Penny's and Kohl's and I found a bedspread, black, on clearance at Penney's. I  also ordered sheets -- one set black and one in red -- and I got the shipping notification yesterday so we should be all set soon.
I figured out how we could convert a Mission or Shaker style to a canopy. I'm going to write out the instructions and let Skywise go over them.

Congrats on the baby! I love babies and I really wish I could have had more than two.

Grin I saw that after I posted... D'oh.  (One of those afore-mentioned blonde moments!)  I picked my red up at Kohl's, and love it, though it was kind of expensive... but worth it.  Very pretty.   I learned from my mom that if you want to have something like that, you have a second comforter that you actually USE. lol. Otherwise you wind up spending a lot of money on comforters.

Thanks for the congrats.  Smiley We're excited.

As you should be! Smiley

We normally use sleeping bags as comforters. They tend to last longer and be warmer. Not available in a lot of colors, unfortunately, but the cats like the tie cords on the end.

Grin  BB&B had a sale a few months ago and had nice heavy (but kinda ugly) comforters on sale for $20).... so that's what I have.  It works!  Sleeping bags are good too, though for some reason I can only ever find the kiddie ones if it isn't camping season...

You know what my cats like to play with?  Chess pieces.  I don't get it... but I find my chess set all over the house....

Skywise has the same problem. He keeps his sets in their boxes unless he is actually using them. It saves aggravation although the cats don't appreciate it.

I need to stop thinking about beds -- and the ways they can be used! Smiley -- and start thinking about monsters! Although the "theme" that Skywise has suggested for the bedroom is rather... compelling.. shall we say? Smiley

I just checked the BBC's latest headline news and found the lot singularly uninteresting. Only one story is likely to still be important in five years the rest are "flash in the pan" filler. I refuse to put such "junk food news" in my head. I used to be a news junkie until I realized the effect it was having on me. It took a while but I'm officially in recovery from world "news."

Well, my man is home and you would NOT believe what he just had me order! Smiley Suffice it to say that NO link will be provided. PG-13 it surely ain't! Smiley So with such thoughts in mind, I'll say good night and go be good. Everyone sleep well and be safe. Smiley Smiley  See you tomorrow.

Well, Skywise is on his way to work. He had to leave early today.  Smiley I'm gonna be bouncing between the comp, the dishes, the laundry and the sewing machine -- gotta get the new curtains made. They're black, of course, a style that was very popular in England -- and in the U.S. to a lesser extent -- during World War II. I'm going to be working on the monster hunt too. The bad guy has been surprised and the second wave of monsters is about to arrive.  Life is about to go merrily to hell for our heroes....

"Google Maps" is silly. I just asked for directions to an unfinished furniture store on the South side of Indianapolis. Goggle gave me a route that is, at minimum, 10 miles longer than it should be. If we take our usual shortcuts, which I'll admit might not occur to Goggle, the trip would be even shorter....

The curtains for the window on the north side are done! Yay! The shower curtain is ready to sew so it is next. Tomorrow, I'll be working on the curtains for the windows on the east side of the bedroom.
I've gotten three loads of laundry done but not put away and I'm gonna be loading the dishwasher shortly. The only thing I haven't worked on yet is the Castle but the night is young and I usually work best after sundown...

Well, the shower curtains are done and so are the dishes. Time to start dinner.... and sneak in some writing while it cooks.

Morning!  Smiley Skywise appreciated my efforts last night -- which is why I'm so late getting started this morning.  Roll Eyes He's added another item to my "not PG-13" shopping list so I'll have that to do along with my sewing today and, of course, the Castle....
My man knows how to keep me busy...... Smiley

OMM: General mayhem and wholesale slaughter. Plus "a fate worse than death" in the offing for our hero unless the Keyholder can reach him in time. [I'm not sure how much of the latter I can manage in PG-13 but I'll do my best! Might have to leave most of it for the book.]

After checking out the parental bedchamber, Spirit has informed me that she wants black curtains too. Well, her bedroom window faces west, so it makes sense. BACK TO THE FABRIC COUNTER!

I'm gonna be blind from sewing all this black!
