ok there are two main types of citrine on the market. natural and heat treated.

Citrine occurs in nature as amethyst that's been subjected to extreme heat and/or radiation

A attracts abundance, is known as a "merchants' stone," it said that if you place it in cash register or where one conducts business, to not only acquire positive wealth but to maintain it as well. . Enhances body's healing energy. Good for mental focus, endurance, and self-esteem
aids in removing depression, brings warmth to the body.
corrosponds to the 3rd chakra.
can be cleansed in almost any fashion.
employing sunlight no more than 20 mins.
fire and/or heat will increase it's powers.

congo citrine generally has a calmer effect than the ones from Brazil and ha a deeper color that almost looks like the heat treated types.however due to the negative way it is mined.congo citrine can be difficult to work with and should be cleansed. and must work slowly with these types.

Madagascar natural citrine has a much paler yellow.

artifical heat treated citrine: this is essentially an amethyst that is heated to 400-450°C. then it goes clear. if the temparture is increased to 900°C it will go green and you will have a heat treated green amethyst. now the difference is that naturally heated citrine takes thousands of years to develop. where manmade heat treated takes minutes. the main reason this is done so is for the jewelry industry as a man made citrine is more colorful. also natural citrine is rare. a small piece of natural citrine can cost $10-20 USD where manmade citrine can cost $1-5 USD.

some people found no difference between heat treated citrine and natural. others found the following:
can CAUSE depression. brings heat into the body. can cause a swirling head and can CAUSE migranes. this is good for people that are in extremely cold environments that have no signs of depression. not recommend for chakra work but it will corrispond to the 7th chakra. works well in negative magic.

one person who had a manmade citrine necklace who had quickly noticed that they started having severe dizzy spells. It reached a point where the peerson had to take the necklace off and hasn't put it back on because it litterly felt like the ground was mushy and moving under the person's feet. and it freaked them out.

also in dealing with artifically heat treated citrines is that recently created ones have more energy or pwer in them . and can burn. the older ones have a lesser effect. also artifically heat treated citrines that were not heated as fast. either using a lower temp and taking a week to create or by using magnifying mirrors can appear like a natural . usally people working with ones that look natural had no problems with it and found it was more on the properties as natural man made citrine.

in coloring natural citrine is a pale yellow in color to almost a tint of yellow. also the stone is very clear. burnt amethyst is bright yellow,yellow-orange to even brown in color. brown are usually sold in clusters.and sometimes there is a white line in it. Brown is sold more as more people tend to buy it more than the brighter types.
