Dumortierite is a fibrous variably colored mineral. The crystals are vitreous and vary in color from brown, blue, and green to more rare violet and pink. Iron and other elements cause the differences in coloration.

Dumortierite quartz is blue colored quartz containing Dumortierite inclusions sometimes referred to as Blue Quartz.

Although this is referred to as Blue Quartz it's wise to keep in mind that there are several other minerals out there which when included in Quartz causes a bluish hue with Indicolite Tourmaline being one of several. One of the neatest finds of late is a Quartz crystal with a bluish hue from Mt. Ida Ark. The inclusions in this are shale and it's a remarkable crystal. Anyways... just cause you read blue quartz doesn't nessessarily mean it is Dumortierite.
