Usually these are found on beaches or sand dunes after a strong lightning storm. Some people erect tall antennas in very flat sandy places and have multiple wires running off it into the sand. If these get hit a lot of times the lightning will split and follow several of the wires into the sand. This is kinda like a fulgurite farm . If your in an area with dunes look for high spots and comb the upper most ridges of dunes. Dont waste time on low lying areas. If the area is totally flat it really becomes a lot more random. If there are any trees or anything tall within 50 yards or so dont bother as the lightning will more than likely channel through that. Distance from an object is really dependent on the hight of the object however. If your really lucky and its a dry storm with no rain and very calm so the sand doesnt get disturbed and you get out there right after the storm some say you can actually see the fused sand on the surface if you look close.

They are very fragile

For those not familiar with fulgurites they are fused sand (glass tubes) with holes running through the middle. They are formed when lightning hits the earth in sandy areas. Depending on the makeup of the sand coloration and shape can change. They are amazing things to work with and some incorporate them into a hollow in the shaft of wands just under the tip to help channel, focus and intensify energies. They do this better than any other substance in my opinion and also hold many other surprises for those working with them.

there are also fake fulgurites on the market that are cheap. real ones currently sell for about 30USD.the big reason these fulgurites as well as other American fulgurites were so expensive was that the beaches that these are collected on are for the most part designated as parks. As such, any type of collecting on these beaches is illegal. Now some say this is to protect the eco-system, but if left where they are, it would break apart. It would be understandable if it was people digging up the beaches and trashing everything to find these stones. but if you find it lying on top of the sand, it's kinda pushing it.

So beware if you find these pieces in a protected land area as you may be breaking the law.
