Helectites are curved stalactites that are formed due to wind blowing through the cave causing the water droplets to preferentially evaporate from one side of the stalactite. In cases of high winds, the calcite can form some very interesting curved shapes. almost looks like a mandrake root or one of the ghostly trio from the Casper the friendly ghost franchise.

new way of packing extremely delicate specimens. place the specimen in a bag which was filled with powdered laundry soap and the specimen buried within the soap. this is the best way to ship/transport extremely delicate specimens. The bag is then place tightly in a box for more protection. A useful hint for anyone planning a move and needing to wrap up anything delicate
