tiger's eye was once thought of as a pseudomorph stone. that is to say that a stone that replaces another stone. it was once believed that tiger's eye was a quartz replacement for crocidolite commonly known as asbestos or a blue abestos, which is comprised of iron & sodium. It was discovered that it's makeup was quite consistent with formation by a discontinuous crack-seal mechanism.begins when a quartz rock containing some crocidolite cracks. Water seeps into the crack. Quartz begins to grow on the crack surface, while crocidolite fibers begin to grow from pieces of crocidolite that are on the crack surface. The crack area fills with new material and then the rock cracks again, usually in a sliding motion along the existing crack surface because it is weaker than other areasThe new crack fills the same way, but the crocidolite fiber is slightly offset because of the crack shear. This process forms bands of quartz with diagonal, discontinuous crocidolite fibers creating hawk's eye. After some of the iron in the crocidolite oxidizes, the material becomes the familiar shades of brown and gold of tiger's eye. Because crocidolite, and not quartz, is the cause of the shimmer in the tiger's eye, the variable chatoyancy that is tiger's eye's signature .This is also known as chatoyancy. which gives it's eye like appearence.

tiger's eye has different sets of astrological associations.some will say capricorn,virgo or leos.I even saw one associated with gemini. so take your pick.

usually tiger's eye will sometimes stem the flow of energy. and this type is good for the thrid chakra.

for virgos this is a good stone for as it will help them stop second guessing themselves as it lessens their need for securiy.

blue tiger's eye: this is a combo of falcon's eye and golden tiger's eye. and will have the properties of both.

red tiger's eye:aka cherry tiger's eye. this is a heat treated variety of gold tiger's eye.helps protect cats.can give courage, Use red tiger eye for male fertility rituals and male fertility charms.
there is also a true form of red tiger's eye which is called bull's eye or ox's eye and this is naturally heat treated much like ctrine is.

to heat treat red tiger's eye you will need to get a metal can or container and fill it with fine clean sillica sand so it will not be damaged. at least 3" deep. a local lumber yard usually carries it. then place in a cold oven and start it at 50 degrees. every hour until it reaches 400 degrees. then turn the oven off and wait for it to completely cool off. then you can open the door. BTW i never did this. just watch for a pretty high electric or gas bill.

green tiger's eye: a.k.a cat's eye quartz or simply as cat's eye.
and it helps gain perspective to see/face a situation fully. can dispel unwanted energies and act as a protective barrier. also a stone for luck.bring good judgement and provide deeper understanding. a very useful stone in gaining wealth and is hihly used in many money spell rituals. excellent use with gamblers.
yellow cat's eye is supposed to be good for scorpios

black tiger's eye: aka flacon's eye. but with the darker varieties.

falcon's eye :the stone of air travelers.
this stone is usually blue,to blue-grey and sometimes a blackish tint to it. except that the crocidolite was replaced by quartz before altering to iron oxide so it still keeps it absetos coloring.
supposedly deepens meditations and releases negativity. it helps gain perspective to see/face a situation fully. this stone is associated with sagittarius. is good to work with birds. especially birds of prey. good for astral travel. associated with air and good with the brow chakras. also good for fighter pilots.

hawk's eye: similar to falcon's eye. this is a silver-greyish to blue-grey in coloring. similar metaphysical properties as falco's eye.

there are fake tiger's eye out there sold in jewelry. these are usually called cathaystone these are imitation glass . then you have fiber optics which are plastic beads.
