Ok, I know I have introd Doc (and by extention DragonMom) into the wonderful world of Filk, but I was wondering if any of the rest of you have ever had the opprotunity to check out this fun musical versions of fanfiction?

Personally, I love Tom Smith and Terri and the Space Pirates (being the official Cabin Boy for Cap't Terri).

Not sure if he counts as filk per se, but this guy is giving Weird Al a run for his money.

And he's a geek too.  Grin

I've got four of his albums....signed, too.   He needs some better sound mixing to compete with WA...and some more mainstream exposure.

I did get to see him perform "Rocky Horror" live at a Halloween showing of Rocky.

Yeah, it does.  The body of Filking songs are dominated by StarTrek and Lackey songs...

I used to go to every sci-fi/fantasy con I could get to, was a member of KCSFFS, which runs ConQuest and ConTraception every year here in KC.  Helped run both for three or four years before I met Doc.  The filk song that stands out in my head is "Our Love is being Kept Alive by Artificial Means".  I think I've heard just every form of filk there is.

Quick trivia question: how did the the term "filk" get started?

Ooh, ooh.

I know this one...

It was a misprint on a flyer.

And it stuck.
