A sturdy table is placed in the center of the Hall for a stage and she changes into her dancing clothes. Her bards provide the music and the Lord Marshall assists her in mounting the improvised stage. Then she dances, expressing all the joy in her heart, and for a time all troubles are forgotten.

	#4382 Penthesilea *The Keyholder's Private Temple* Apollo graciously accepted Penthesilea's song from the family's private temple rather than the open air top of her tower since morning had brought a howling snowstorm down on the Castle! Snow accummulated quickly and Penthesilea ordered everyone to do only those chores that were necessary and to prepare for a Winter Festival when the snow stopped. She figured that after having their Yule celebration curtailed by the presence of the suitors, her people needed to have some fun, especially the children! The fact that she still had worries didn't need to impact their lives any more than it had to.

	#4387 Salanthos Searching the castle... Sal walked through the stormbound castle, softly padding through the dark stone corridors. She moved quietly and unobtrusively, through the various rooms and halls, her eyes faintly glowing purple in the shadows. Outwardly, she seemed to be merely exploring, but she actually searched the castle with power. Who betrays? Her thought searched minds and hearts. Who wishes ill? She was so caught up in the wash of powers she barely noticed the faces of the people who walked through, their minds proving free of taint. A moment she paused, there was something� but it moved away, and she let it pass. She saw neither betrayal nor malice toward the Keyholder there, so she let it be. Briefly stepping outside the castle, Sal searched the icy grounds quickly. There were few people to check outside, and outside in nature, even within the storm, her power amplified and she could search wider areas in less time. Her mind hummed with the emotions from the whole castle, fear and hope, joy and rage, need, she tasted them and let them be. None intended harm to castle or Keyholder, and that was all she sought. Completing her search of the castle grounds, Sal let loose the power, surprised. She had found none who would betray the castle, but she knew someone had. Then again, such a general search would not find any who did not think what they did was wrong, that would require a face to face evaluation� Deep in contemplation, Sal went to give her findings to Penthesilea�

After a few minutes, the source of her unease revealed itself in a name -- Madridoor. She tried to determine why that very high tech city was on her mind but she couldn't pin it down. One thing was for certain. Madridoor was important now. Very important. She had considered sending the mobile unit to Madridoor to sell the rest of the gems. Now, she had changed her mind. She would go herself and see what it was about Madridoor that was bothering her. It would be dangerous. Her magick wouldn't work there. She would have only the skills and knowledge that she had gained the hard way in her long life but she had operated in Tech Only areas before and had survived. She turned her mind to which identity she would use...

	#4390 Penthesilea *The Keyholder's Study* Penthesilea went through another box of documents. She wouldn't be Mercenary Guild this time. While the Guild had a presence in Madridoor it was not strong there -- those who would normally be Guild members were instead attached to Houses, Schools and Clans that looked after the members in the way that the Guild did in the rest of the world. There was no way that Penthesilea, as a Guild member could gain access to the places and people that her intuition was telling her she was going to need to reach and there was no way that she could pose as a member of one of the native organizations. Fortunately she had other options. She was also, under a variety of names, a member of the Entertainers' Guild which did have a strong presence in the city. Penthesilea could sing and dance -- in several styles -- well enough to be hired by anyone looking to hire such a performer. There was no magick involved in her skill, simply the talent that she had been born with and had trained during a very long life. She was attractive enough to be arm candy for any man looking for that sort of relationship. She had no intention of actually providing that sort of service, so she was going to have to plan ahead but with the tech devices at her disposal, that wouldn't be a problem. It might take a bit of time to arrange though. Chewing her lip, she headed for MoonCat's lab to see if her offspring were still awake.... Post # 2,500

She had felt Kodiak at the back of her mind for some time and was wondering why he hadn't said anything. Penthesilea: (inspeaking) *Beloved, I know you're there. Why so quiet?* Kodiak: (inspeaking) *Don't go to Madridoor. You don't know what it's like.* Penthesilea: (inspeaking) *That's never stopped me before.* Kodiak: (inspeaking) *It's a snake pit. Women disappear in Madridoor.* Penthesilea: (inspeaking) *Kind of hard for ME to disappear with you in my head and Father watching.* Kodiak: (inspeaking) *I'm telling you not to go.* Penthesilea: (inspeaking) AND I'm telling YOU, Beloved, that I'm going. I'm the only one available. We are spread too thin. There is something going on there that we need to know about and it wouldn't be nagging at me if it wasn't immediate and important. So. I'm going. Kodiak said no more and Penthesilea felt him withdraw from her. When she climbed into bed a few minutes later, she felt alone for the first time since Yule.....

His Master did not miss his foul mood and Kodiak explained the situation to the older man. His Master smiled. Master: She is like you, Kodiak, stubborn and willful. I predict many clashes in your future. Kodiak: I only want to protect her! Her magick won't work in Madridoor. Master: She has other skills, doesn't she? Kodiak: Yes, but..Master held up a hand to stop the words. Master: But, you are not there to protect her. Kodiak nodded. I understand, Kodiak, but you are not yet ready. Soon, I think, but not yet. There are minds in Madridoor that could challenge yours and win. Unless there is an emergency, we cannot permit you to go to her in Madridoor until your training is complete. Kodiak: Then why are we standing here? Master: Why, indeed. His Master then escorted Kodiak to his next lesson. The young man's eyes were black as he remembered Madridoor.

	#4393 Penthesilea Penthesilea spent the morning in quiet preparation. It was still snowing hard and the Castle was quiet. Ma'ako was still digging through dusty tomes, muttering and making notes. MoonCat was making Wolfkin specific nanites as fast as she could and SpiritFire was deep in discussion with the Head Librarian of the University. And whenever Penthesilea reached for Kodiak, she found a wall between them. She wished that he could understand that she had to do what she felt was her duty, even if it made her unhappy. And fighting with Kodiak, knowing that he was angry with her, made her very unhappy indeed...

A temporary comlink and data port had been installed behind her ear and various small items of equipment were hidden around her body. She had two sets of ID, the gems and a carrisac of clothing. She would go to East Madridoor, which was in the Magick/Tech Area on the mainland across from Madridoor Island, sell the gems and exchange the cash for gold. Then, after sending the gold home, she would take the ferry across the Straits of Madridoor to the main city. The mobile unit was already in the Dining Hall having lunch -- MoonCat had thought of everything -- and she was ready. She hadn't heard from Daemon or Sal but couldn't wait any longer. Kodiak still would not speak to her. She activated her mirror, found a likely spot, said the spell and stepped through to East Madridoor.. *

	#4395 Penthesilea Penthesilea's landing spot was near the Visitor's Center in East Madridoor. She walked in and presented documents identifying her as "Silver Steele" a member of the Entertainers' Guild. She exchanged a hefty amount of gold for a cash card sealed to her DNA and picked up the additional ID necessary to move around in the high tech world of Madridoor. It had been a while since she had been in a really high tech city and that had been in an alternate reality. She'd heard plenty of stories about Madridoor but had never had occasion to visit. She was looking forward to doing some exploring for future reference while ferreting out whatever it was that she was supposed to find out! She stopped at the Ferry Terminal long enough to stow her carrisac in a locker and check on the departure times and then headed out to take care of business. Her next stop was a gem merchant with an excellent reputation and deep pockets. She brought him two quarts of her uncut stones. He offered her a fair price which she accepted. She had him pay in gold, not unusual since Madridoor's cashless system only operated in East Madridoor and on Madridoor Island. As before, she transported the gold straight home for reminting into her own coinage. A dwarven engraver was already working on a design for the coin and, hopefully, at some point inspiration would strike someone and the name of the new nation would be known! Once her business was done, she headed back to the Ferry Terminal to catch the next ferry to Madridoor. She bought a few odds and ends at the Gift Shop, retrieved her carrisac, boarded the ferry and settled in for the two and a half hour journey to the city....

One caught her eye and she looked closer. It was for a singer at a club called The Ages. She tried to move on and found herself pulled back. Okay, she thought and took down the address and information. She went to a library terminal and jacked herself in. Then, she downloaded a complete selection of songs -- both popular hits and standards -- directly into her head. Thus prepared, she headed out.

	#4398 Salanthos Sal stepped into her quarters with a thoughtful frown. The Keyholder had left, going to Madridoor. Sal had intended to accompany her, but she had been busy and missed her leaving. There were many rumors about Madridoor. Sal had seen the truth of some of them, and capable as the Keyholder was, she might need someone there to watch her back. Decided, Sal repacked what little she had out and looked around. She had no need of false identities or papers such as Penthesalia carried. Among her abilities she had a kind of invisibility. Like many of her abilities, it was both blessing and curse. Unless she deliberately attracted attention, anywhere she went she was overlooked. only the most observant would even see her, and even then they would not truly notice her. It made for a lonely existance at times, but at least there would be no need for disguises. Once packed, Sal looked around, satisfied. She had everything she needed in the pouches at her waist, and needed no more time. Focusing on her destination, Sal stepped between the worlds...

They made her ears hurt. There were some with some talent but most of them couldn't carry a tune in a bucket. Penthesilea looked around the club to get a feel for what the management was looking for. It was definitely high end. The furnishings were luxurious. The floor was marble as were the pillars that were sprinkled throughout the room. She could see a hallway that she was certain led to private suites. Yes, she said to herself, very high end. With that thought in mind, she turned her attention to her newly acquired repertoire and searched it for an appropriate song. Silver Steele. Penthesilea took the stage when her name was called. She told the technician what music she wanted and he called it up on his board. The music started, low and soft, and she waited for her cue. The song she had selected was a standard, first made popular fifty years ago and had remained a staple. It was about loving someone who loved someone else. Penthesilea could identify. She thought about Kodiak and how she had watched him with other women while loving him so much she thought she would die. She thought about the tears and the love and... everything. Her cue came and she sang..... Penthesilea watched as the remaining singers were dismissed. The job was hers. The manager came over to discuss the particulars and Penthesilea realized that she would need to shop for performing clothes...
