I thought that we needed someplace to stick links to helpful websites, things that helped, whatever didn't fit anywhere else in the never ending battle to maintain a healthy weight. I'm starting us off with the most basic thing -- a link to a Body Mass Index Chart.

Just be aware that BMI is NOT any kind of indicator of overall health.

Doctors have found that maintaining a steady weight and reasonable activity is healthier even at obese levels than yo-yo weight changes. There is more to that, but in general, if your weight changes slowly, and you are in good health overall, you are less likely to have major illnesses than if you bounce around the scale, all things being the same.

I know. But with everyone talking about "my BMI is "such and such" what's yours?" I thought it would be good to know. I've still got some pounds to lose before I get into the normal range.

I read an article recently as well that the BMI scale currently used does not necessarily work for everyone/is not accurate for everyone, as it does not take body type into account, just height and weight.

I noticed that. It is a "quick and dirty" indicator at best. I'm a medium frame and I know that getting below a certain weight isn't going to be possible no matter what. I'm really liking Tyra Banks' attitude.
