Onyx is usually a dark gray to black in color with some white streaks to it.it's also a chalcedony.

Jewelry that is labeled as onyx is often dyed agates as these stones do not have white streaks and are completely black. other stones sold as onyx are actually "Black stone",black obsidian,dyed pebble, dyed quarzite, or reconstructed stones, dyed equally to resemble the black onyx . Also you have a blackmarble/ travertine which is a black marble from pakistan which is called oriental onyx. also a mexican onyx/marble which is called Onyx stone. and this type looks exactly like real onyx except for the hardness. as this stone on the MOH's scale is 5.5-6 while natural onyx is 7. but black dyed agate has the same hardness as natural onyx. but protection is the same with natural onyx and dyed agates.

It's said that earth signs shouldn't really wear it as it's not too good for them as earth signs are a little more grounded than other signs. and sometimes they repulsed by it.

I found that it's true that some earth signs are repulsed by it while others are not. so far i have seen one taurus repulsed and one virgo attracted to it. For capricorns onyx increases their wisdom , calmness,sense of responsibility,recognizing conflicts early,goals in general, and beautiful things in life.

for Leos it helps their plans come to focus and keeps their minds free and flexible. but must be black.


Also for cleansing an onyx it should be cleansed once a week either by running water or some other method. if used a lot it should be burried in the earth overnight once a month.

People will say they feel comforted when they put it on.
wearing this stone in excessive amounts can decrease sexual desire sometimes. To negate that effect wear carnelian. in general onyx is considered a balancer. some people reguarded it as an enchancer of some sorts.

also this is an excellent stone you use in defensive and/or attack spells.
