	I have everything ready except the cover letter, the writing of which is the torment of the damned or the literary equivalent of passing a boulder sized kidney stone, whichever is the most painful at any particular time. I want to have this thing out of here by Friday so expect a certain amount of cryptic grumbling between now and when I get this thing done....

	The manuscript went out a week ago and I'm waiting for the postcard that will tell me that it has been checked in. In the meantime, I'm proofing/editing/tweaking Book 2. I'm about a third of the way through it, close to half, and when it's done, I'll set it aside and start on the final draft of Book 3. After about a week or so, I'll go back to Book 2 and go over it again as I'm more likely to spot mistakes after some time away from the project. Hopefully, by the time I'm completely finished with Book 2, I'll have a decision back on Book 1 and I'll know what I'll be doing next.

	The day needs to be longer. Therefore, a "day" on Samgara is hereby declared to be 30 hours long instead of 24. Things -- like interludes in the bedchamber -- won't be so rushed now.... I really need to dig out the astronomical notes I made on the SamSeb system and get them in order....

	I am trying to write. The girls are trying to clean WP's ears (the kits seem to be particularly susceptible to ear mites) and she's having none of it. Skywise is poking around trying to find a compass that got mislaid. Trying not to kill my nearest and dearest is becoming a trial....

	The proofing/editing/tweaking of Book 2 is going well. I have less than 220 pages to go and if my eyes hold out, I could get through that tonight so starting on the final draft of Book 3 WILL start tomorrow. That postcard still hasn't shown up yet. Maybe I should have paid for delivery confirmation after all. "Waiting for fullness" is a PITA.......

	I just made a separate double spaced copy of Book 3. It is only a little longer than Book 1 but the page count comes to 882 pages. Book 1 came in at 647. Methinks there are a LOT of formatting errors in Book 3!

	I've been fixing formatting errors today and the page count is down to 871. I'm starting on what is currently page 609 so I'll probably lose another 4 or 5 pages before I get to the end. THEN, the rewriting/editing/tweaking starts..... Post # 25,652

	The first pass to fix formatting errors is done and the page count is down to 867. I'm going to need to add a synopsis of Book 2 which isn't written yet so that will put a few pages back.

	I took another 2 pages out -- the scene didn't really move the story forward -- and I'll need a little something to replace it but that can wait since it is in the back quarter of the book.

	The Book 2 synopsis is done, thank the Gods! I'm going to put off working on Book 2 for another day or so and then dive in. I'm wanting to do it now but there are a few non-writing chores I should get out of the way before gluing myself to the computer..... Post # 44,000 for the entire site.

	I've finished proofing/editing/tweaking/tightening Chapters 1 and 2 and Book 2 is now 672 pages long. I've corrected a lot of formatting errors and cut a lot of stuff out that really doesn't fit now. If things continue to go this well, I'll be printing a hardcopy of the final draft by the end of the month. I'll proof and correct that and Book 2 will be ready to show the world if the world is ready for it!

	I've finished Chapter 4 and Book 2 is now 2 pages shorter. I added a little new material -- mainly to clarify some things -- and cut out a sentence or two here and there that was cluttering up the prose and just generally tightened things up. I'm nearly a third of the way through Book 2. It looks like I'll be able to print the hardcopy by the end of the month.

	I'm about halfway through Chapter 6 now and have "lost" another page off of the total. Hopefully, I'll finish up 6 tonight but I'm not gonna push it. I like being able to see....

	I've finished with Chapter 6 and I'm past the halfway point in the manuscript. Yay me! Page count is 669.

	I've finished Chapter 10 and the page count is currently 666. I have about 110 pages left to go so it looks like the final page count will be between 666 and 660. I should be ready to print out a hard copy by the weekend.

	I'm working on Chapter 11 and my eyes are killing me but I hope that they hold out until I get to the end of the chapter. I've faithfully promised my eyes that I'll quit then if they will get me that far.

	Done with Chapter 11 with 46 pages to go. It looks like the final page count will be 666. Does that amuse anyone else as much as it does me? As I promised my eyes, I'm putting Book 2 to bed for the night. Tomorrow "should" see the phase of the process completed.

	I'm through with the last chapter of Book 2. I needed to do a rewrite on one section or I'd have been done hours ago. Final page count: 666 pages. Tomorrow or Saturday, I'll start printing it out for the final proofing. Then it will be on to Book 3...

	Hmmmmmmm........ Book 3 is shorter by word count than Book 2 but it's nearly 200 pages (current page count: 868) longer by page count. I'm thinking there are a ton of formatting errors in there although one chapter has a LOT of blank lines in it.

	I've finished the first pass through Book 3 and fixed the glaring formatting errors but I've only managed to reduce the page count by one page. The word count of 3 is about the same as for 1 and 2 but its page count is 200 pages more than 2. I know why that is and I'm going to have to change how I've done the headings when I change locations in the chapters. For a good part of the book, the cast is split up and action is occurring simultaneously and I put in "scene headings" to help the reader AND me keep the story straight. Tomorrow, I'll go through and adjust the headings and see how many pages that saves.

	I've compressed the headings and the manuscript is STILL 862 pages. I've started on the final edit/rewrite and that will compress it some more however I'm thinking that it is just going to be longer in page count than the others due to the action being spread out over three or four locations for most of the book.

	The final draft of Book 3, Chapter 1, is done and I've shaved off another page in the process. I'm working on Chapter 2 and I'll shave a page off of that one because the last page of the chapter only has three lines on it so more condensing is in order.

	I've finished up Chapter 2 this evening and I'm well into Chapter 3. I've managed to peel off a couple of more pages -- down to 859 -- and I'm not having to add much in the way of new material and some redundancies are coming out. It's all good.

	Chapter 3 is done and I've made a quick pass through Chapter 4 which has resulted in knocking off another page. Current count is 858. I've been working for about four or five hours and the eyes are getting indignant so I'm going to have to quit for a while...
