I was talking writing with VE a bit ago and realized that Book 3 possibly had a problem. Through the books I've avoided mentioning specific times, just "dawn", "sunset", "highsun", and "hours" before or after those general times. Except for one section in Book 3 where I'm specific about what time it is. When I wrote that section, Samgara had a 24 hour day. NOW it has a 30 hour day. So I had to hie myself off and change all references to specific times in that section. I have most of them fixed and I'm going to go back and check to be sure I've found them all. Glad I caught them now...

Book 3 was published on the 5th and I was going to wait until the end of the month to start the next one.
No such luck.
I've been restless and twitchy and unable to concentrate on anything this past week and it didn't take me long to diagnose my problem.
I was in "writing withdrawal."
I couldn't wait and I started writing Book 4 today. I'm using a plot that DK suggested back in '06. It will be good but it won't be easy to write. He thought it would take a year and he might just be right. I've still got a lot of details, not to mention twists and turns, to work out. I've gotten all the bits and pieces that I'm going to use in a word document and I'm working up a timeline so I can keep everything straight without having to dig through the first three books when I need to look something up!
So here I go on another odyssey through the world of Samgara. I'll make it interesting, I promise.

I'm currently writing up a piece the basics of which has been rattling around in my head for a while. It's going to take some time 'cause I haven't decided if the demon is overkill or not. Demons aren't normally very courageous especially if they discover that their opponent is a much heavier hitter than they look! The mage is going down in screaming flames regardless so I'm going to have to think about and play with this until I figure out the particulars.

The work is going slower this time. I don't have a "frame" to work with this time and I'm having to figure it out as I go instead of having an "outline" of sorts. But a scheming Smiley is getting the first installment of her lesson on what happens when you cross Our Heroine. Yes, I know, another one. This is the last "woman of low moral character" I promise!

Well, I've added a bit here and a bit there, fleshing out the parts I "imported" from '06. I'm currently working on a rather unpleasant conversation between Our Heroine and Our Hero. He isn't far enough gone yet to murder her....

Blame DK for this situation, it was HIS idea!

Working on this previously mentioned conversation.
It's making me cry so it must be good.
It may belong farther on in the book but I'm not sure where so I'll leave it where it is until I know for sure.

The idea I had on the way to Bloomington is coming together nicely. Definitely gonna have to start hauling my tote around with me now.

I haven't written anything yet today but tomorrow is a "Major Expedition Day" and we've been getting organized and picking up a few last minute things. [Spirit wanted some serious hearing protection among other things.] I'll pull it out after dinner and go over what I did yesterday, correct any mistakes and maybe add some new material if something occurs to me. I still need to come up with some new characters so I'll be thinking about that too.

I'm tappy-tapping away on Book 4. Our Hero is in the shower, contemplating the colossal mess he's gotten himself into this time and I'm trying to figure out how to close the scene. I've also tweaked a lot of sentences and fixed cases of "wrong word, spelled right."

The scene is closed out and I've been looking at an "import" that will need some work as what would have fit back in '06 no longer fits with what the story evolved into. Smiley

I've decided that I need a reasonably major magick battle in Book 4 so I started working on that this evening. Our Heroine's opponent is badly outgunned but she isn't going to let him know that until she's ready to incinerate him. She's more than a little POed. He should NOT have kidnaped her daughter with intent to sacrifice and he is going to pay. Big time....

I'm going over a confrontation between Our Heroine and Book 4's female troublemaker and I've realized that the troublemaker is sounding too much like Jasmine. Admittedly, Our Hero tends to attract females that are needy, immature, selfish and shrill but while this "female canine" can pretend to be those things if necessary it's only an act. So I'm going to be working on the character today to fix that problem...

I've been working on a particularly difficult section of Book 4 and I think I finally have it right or close to it. Next is the "fallout" from it which ain't going to be pretty but I'm going to have to take it slow to get where I need for it to go. Yeah, I know. I'm being cryptic. Can't help it. I'm working on MAJOR plot point here and I don't want to give anything away.

I couldn't figure out the best way to go with the "fallout" so I've quit for the night.

I've had a couple of ideas today of the "blood and gore" type and I've been getting them down and out of the way. Those scenes are easier to write since they normally don't require a lot of dialogue and/or involve complex situations. And Book 4 has a TON of complex situations....

And the most complex situation is all DK's fault!

I'm going to have to be careful while writing Book 4. Like Book 2, it makes me cry and I get "the blues" too easily as it is. I think I'll probably write the "happy ending" first so I'll know that it has one. If I don't have that to look forward to, the story could turn into a Greek Tragedy which is not what I want.

In Book 4, someone is going to wipe the floor with Our Hero -- he has it coming, trust me -- and I need to decide at what point in the proceedings this happens. I also have to break one of his twin swords so it has to be replaced -- I have a plan, trust me again! -- and the replacement is going to come in really handy as Our Hero will have a LOT of slaying to do.

I'm slowly getting this God killed and it's hard going. Our Hero has a sword that is especially effective against Gods so that's not the problem. The problem is writing out the sword fight. Close quarters combat is much easier to do once you have decided the basic moves. "A" swings at "B's" jaw. "B" blocks and punches "A" in the gut... and so on. I may have to work this combat out on a separate document and insert it in the main text once I have it the way I want it. One thing is for sure, Our Hero is gonna win!!

I'm getting the fight between the soon to be decapitated God and Our Hero roughed in but I want more detail. That means I'm going to have to dig out my books on medieval swordsmanship, Japanese swordsmanship, highland swordsmanship and fight choreography and I'm not gonna do that tonight! So I'm going to rough it in and let it go until I have more of the book done -- along with a lot more fight scenes --- and then go back and spruce it and all the others up at the same time.

I got an idea and wrote almost a full page of nearly perfect/perfect material while dinner was cooking in addition to what I managed to grind out earlier. That pesky God hasn't had his death scene yet but for not working on Book 4 to the exclusion of all else today, I did pretty good. I have a few more sentences to write to link up what I'm writing and what was already there and I'll be done for the night.

I've written a page that gets me through a rough conversation. Without giving away too much, a piece of Our Hero's past that he'd forgotten due to head trauma [this bit of medical info courtesy of DK] has just come back to bite him on his good looking butt and he and his Lady have to figure out how to deal with it. And since it is a major problem, it forms the backbone of the book so what I wrote today is central to the story. I think I covered everything that needed covering at this point but it's first draft so if I didn't, I'll tweak.

I've been working on another "difficult" section and it is now connected to the section that comes directly afterward so I'm pleased about that and shutting the word doc down for the night -- unless I get a bright idea between now and bedtime. Then I'll have it out again!  Smiley

Smiley It is becoming more and more apparent that in order for a certain character to work in Book 4, I'm going to have to rework the origin and create a new non-human species. I know what I need them to be able to do so that's a step in the right direction.

I've decided to work on "torture the she-demon" which, when finished, will flow into the "kill the demon sorcerer" section I finished a while ago. I still have to write the "capture the she-demon" part but she WILL be captured. I mean, I couldn't torture her otherwise now could I?
