I started out today at 12,771 and ended at 13,555. Not as much as I hoped but it's better than no new material at all. I was working on one of the flashbacks and I REALLY have to throw in some humor via Our Heroine as a young child.....

I'm certifiable.

I've added another project, this one titled "Happy Birthday" in which Our Hero is the star. It occurs before he meets Our Heroine and involves a very pivotal point in his life. I'm thinking that it would work as a short story submission if it isn't too long and I can find the right market.

I'm up to 15,419 words, added over the last couple of days mostly today. I wrote a "combat" that may need more details but I'll need to do some research and choreography before I do that but what I have will serve for the moment. I've got another combat to do that directly follows and it may be more "flashy" since it is four against one and Our Heroine is going to have to be fast on her feet to get out alive. [She will, of course, "I" am writing it!]

Nothing else has "come through" for Happy Birthday but the word doc is there if something does.

Current word count is 16,000 which seems a good place to stop for the night. Enemy combatants have been killed -- four of them anyway -- with two more to go but since I'm yawning, I don't think I can do their deaths justice tonight. I'll tackle that tomorrow (it isn't "tomorrow" around here until the sun comes up!) or maybe the Grand Council of the Gods while they try to decide whether or not to execute Our Heroine at age four years. [Hint: they don't. Obviously.]

I didn't get as much new material added today as I'd hoped -- the eyes giving me fits did NOT help! -- but I closed a gap, smoothed out some rough edges, tweaked some things and fixed some typos so the day wasn't a total wash. Final word count: 16,521.

I added some new material today but I did more "revising" than writing new stuff. Mainly 'cause the new stuff required revising the old stuff. Not as "sexy" as pounding out new prose but it has to be done.
Today's word count: 16,786

I'm shutting First Death down for the night unless I get  a sudden flash of inspiration which I'm not expecting. I tweaked a little but today's output was mostly new material and I closed several gaps. The remaining gaps aren't suggesting to me what I should fill them with so I'll come back to them tomorrow.

Tonight's word count: 17,347.

I haven't been writing the last few days. I've been thinking instead. I've decided what to do about the "secondary" plot that was giving me a problem so now I'm back working on Book 4 and I've decided to make it into two books so Book 5 now has a tentative publishing date of late 2017. I'm giving myself until the end of 2015 to get Book 4 done. I'll work on First Death too and hopefully I'll get it done before the middle of 2015.

I've officially split "Book 5" off from "Book 4" and into in a word document of its own. So I now "officially" have three works in progress with the fourth -- a reference guide for the reader -- also on deck to catch any relevant information that needs to be in there.

Current word counts:

Book 4:  41,845
Book 5:  11,162
First Death: 17,441
Samgaran Companion (working title): 15,762

I didn't write today but I got an idea for the "logo" for the warrior order to which Our Hero belongs. I have an illustration of "the Mark" that members have tattooed on them (the right wrist for men, small of the back for women and back of the neck for slaves) so I'm using that as the focal point for the design. I'm thinking of making it into wall hanging just to see how it looks....

Working on Book 4 today. I haven't added a lot so far, my eyes are driving me crazy and I keep wanting to slip into "editing mode" which REALLY slows down the flow when you're trying to shove the words in your head out through your fingers...

I finally got that pesky sentence fixed to suit me and added a bit more but I still haven't figured out exactly how hell is going to break loose. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

Today's word count on Book 4: 42,582

"Hell" has finally broken loose and I should get the gap between these two sections filled in pretty quickly. Then it will be on to the next thing.....

I've tidied things up and closed another gap. I'm not entirely satisfied with that one but that's what "revision" is for. The next gap involves Our Heroine heating up the sheets with someone other than Our Hero and it's gonna take some time and thought. Different men, different "styles".....

I wasn't having much luck with the love scene so I moved on and have added some new material in other places and closed a few more gaps. I'm going to have to do some [more] research on the subject of fighting with swords since I have a couple of doozies coming up that I really need to do justice too since during one of them, one of Our Hero's twin swords gets broken. [Don't worry, he'll get a new one in Book 5.] Fortunately, Skywise found a book on that very subject at the used book store and got it for me.

I cleaned up a few more spots, found a place where I contradicted myself and put in a note that it needed to be fixed and I'm going to quit for the night. Even with my nose inches from the screen, it's getting really hard to see.

I'm not doing much writing as such today. What I am doing is the mind numbing job of setting up the "timeline form" for Books 4 and 5. I've decided that Our Hero and Heroine will have about five years of relative peace and quiet between their handfasting and the beginning of Book 4. I really don't know how much time Book 4 is going to cover and Book 5 will start a year after 4 ends so the timeline will cover at least 3 years and maybe four. I won't know how much time is going to be covered until I start putting events on the line.

And you thought all a writer had to do was tell a good story!

While going through the timeline, I "may" have found something that will demand a "revision" in Book 1. I'll have to pull it out to see. Just what is needed today....

I'm saved! No "revision" will be necessary although I AM trying to figure out where to put the sequence of events on the timeline which is a bit of a chore since I didn't start putting dates in the narrative until Book 2. That may be something I'll change when I prepare the books for hardcopy publication.

Okayyyyyyy.... gonna have to set up a separate word document to get this sorted! Our Hero was on his way to the castle when Our Heroine was nearly killed by a monster. He was traveling upriver for 20 days and for 10 of those days, he was going nuts 'cause he knew he needed to be "somewhere" but was stuck on the boat. This is one of those places where the action is taking place in two different areas and when I wrote it, I didn't cut back and forth. *sigh* So now I get to figure it out. The eyes are complaining and so is the brain so I'm going to save everything and take a little break.
