I decided to take a long break since a short one couldn't reboot my brain. I'll work on the timeline tomorrow unless I get a brainstorm about Book 4. The work has to be done so I'll do it while Book 4 germinates.

I'm saved! No "revision" will be necessary although I AM trying to figure out where to put the sequence of events on the timeline which is a bit of a chore since I didn't start putting dates in the narrative until Book 2. That may be something I'll change when I prepare the books for hardcopy publication.

Check that. Revision will be necessary since creating the timeline has turned up a problem. I'll be approaching the problem very carefully since I don't want to make matters worse. I'm not going to correct the ebook version right now since most people probably won't notice it but a fanatic fan or a someone with an ax to grind would so it will be fixed before it goes into hardcopy, whenever that is.

I've made a couple of slight adjustments and fixed a verb tense to bring it into line with the adjustment. I've put it to bed for the night and I'll revisit it tomorrow sometime and see how it works.

And my eyes hurt.

Smiley Working on the timeline has made it plain that I'm going to be doing some rewriting on Book 1. At the very least, I'll be moving some text around and maybe eliminating an incident or two that doesn't move the story forward as efficiently as I'd like. I have the version that was epublished in another file on the desktop and on a memory stick so I'm making notes on the copy I'm working from (always keep a copy of a finished draft -- even if it turns out NOT to be finished!) as I work on the timeline. *sigh* I'm hoping Book 2 is better organized! So the print edition will be justifiably called a "revised and updated" edition.

Well, I've made a revised timeline with my first "cut" which gives me sixty days to play with. I'd like a little more so I'll be tweaking it. When it's finalized, I'll revise Book 1 accordingly.

I've finished the first round of timeline tweaking. Tomorrow I'll go through the part of Book 1 that it covers and see how it shapes up.

I've "officially" started revising Book 1 since I figured out how I could gain sixty days between Chapters 1 and 2, so I've made that change. I'll go through the manuscript tonight and bring the timeline and the manuscript into alignment. And since I know better now than I did then, I'll be putting dates in 'cause it's too dang easy for the "days" to get away from me otherwise!

MUCH text is being moved to put it in chronological order and I've tweaked a few "time related" things. Since text has been moved, there's some duplication of information that will have to be taken care of but tonight my main concern is getting everything in order.
And making dinner......

Dinner is being made and I've found a section several pages long that I'm going to have to do something with but I haven't decided just what yet. I've got it marked off for later thought.

Dinner is cooked but not eaten and I "may" have figured out what to do with that troublesome section. It will likely need to be revised a little but I "should" be able to keep the incidents and the character interactions reasonably intact.

I was thinking about dragging and dropping that problem section to another part of the manuscript but I realized that the cognitive functions are not up to the job tonight so that task goes on tomorrow's "To Do" list and I've put all castle related word documents away for the night.

I've been working on Book 1 this afternoon, filling in the timeline and cutting some inconsequential dialog with a character that won't come to prominence until Book 2. The chitchat didn't do much to move the story forward so I cut it.

SmileyFirst, I didn't have enough days between Our Heroine's arrival at the castle and the Spring Planting Festival when Our Hero is dragged into her life.

NOW I have too many days between Midsummer and Ancestor Night!
I think I'll go beat my head against the wall some more....

I've filled in some of those "empty days" with the section that I had to move. It will need some new material added to it so it makes sense where it is now and I'll need to write an explanation to the effect that there was a longish peaceful period in which nothing much happened except that Our Hero and Heroine grew closer MUCH to the extreme displeasure of those planning to tear them apart -- which one of them will be starting on as soon as the action picks up. I haven't taken too much out so these additions will add to the word/page count but then I can truthfully say on the cover that "never before seen material" has been added.

I've added about 3/4 of a page of new text to Book 1 most of it explaining that for about a hundred or so days, nothing of real concern happened for most of the castle's people. The rest is smoothing out the rough edges that have popped up due to moving text around. I'm now trying to assign dates to incidents in the last 60 some pages of Book 1. A lot happens and I'm going to need to be careful so everything fits but the end is in sight as far as the timeline is concerned. Rather than push on and have my eyes decide to rebel on me, I'm going to take a break and rest them. Be back in a while.

I've been been back for a while but dinner and miscellaneous kitchen work took precedence. I've done a little more work on Book 1 but nothing significant. I think that once I finish Book 1's timeline, I'll go back to working on Book 4's -- which is what got me started on this -- and then get back to working on 4 itself. I can't do anything about getting 1 into hard copy until I've done a lot more research on the subject so it's gonna be a while.

* Smiley Repeat as necessary!*

NOW there isn't enough time between Ancestor Night and Our Heroine's birthday. MORE text moving is going to be necessary. Probably the "dungeon crawl" undertaken by Our Hero, Our Heroine and a couple of others. Thing is, if I move that part, I'll probably need to do at least minor and maybe major revisions to the last 60 pages or so. I'm not sure yet how much would need to be done and it's something I should have AT LEAST roughed in before I put it aside and work on Book 4.

"Revised with never before seen material" is looking more and more accurate for the hard copy edition.....

Rearranging didn't work so I've compressed like hell and may do a little more but I'm going to leave it for now and read it over later -- probably tomorrow -- then tweak and finalize it then. Under NO circumstances will what is currently in Book 1 be moved to Book 2. That one covers a lot of ground and does it in less than 30 days. Book 3 is equally jam-packed although NOT as tightly as Book 2.
I need chocolate.....

I "think" I've got everything compressed enough to fit. I'm less than ten pages from the end and since Skywise isn't home yet, I'll probably finish tonight. Then I'll go over things tomorrow and see how they work. Hopefully, they WILL work and I can put Book 1 away while I work on Book 4 which is still glaring at me.....

Everything looks okay on Book 1 so I'm going to set it aside for a while and work on Book 4 and/or First Death while I research getting the books into hard copies.

I've started a separate word document to work out the logistics of a three way handfasting with one man and two women. I had something written up but it wasn't getting me in the heart so I copied the handfasting at the end of Destinies and pasted it into a fresh document so I can tear it up with impunity and start over. I want to use the same handfasting rite but for three instead of two. I might need to get my Barbies out to work out the "stage movement."

I think my "writing groove" may be coming back. I'm listening to my new cd (Invincible by Two Steps from Hell) and I find myself thinking of various "warlike" scenes that will go in the latter half of Book 4.
The girls may get sick of this cd by the time I'm fully back into Book 4.

I have a cool "partial" scene in my head that would belong in the first part of Book 4 but I need to come up with a diplomatic incident serious enough to start a war to justify it. Smiley

I've been working on the larp stuff tonight, a general  explanation about how magick works, the Gods and their relationship with mortals, demons and how they fit in and the afterlife. It's not progress on Book 4 but it is making me think about Samgara and that "could" get things perking a bit more.
