I went through Book 1 tonight and broke up some overly long paragraphs. It didn't increase the page count but I had to get creative a few times when I would get to the end of a chapter and find that the last page had only one or two sentences on it. Or even only a couple of words. I didn't do any "writing", that will come later on if at all. I'll see how it reads when I'm ready to dig into it again.

I've started compiling a list of freelance copy editors for when I'm ready to publish my books in hardcopy. I'm giving preference to editors who charge by the hour rather than the word.

I was feeling restless tonight so I pulled out Book 1 and started going over it. I've made a few minor changes and highlighted a few places that I think I can improve on. The long layoff seems to have sharpened my eye for things that need touching up. I'm into Chapter 2 now but I've quit for the night. Not going to rush it. I want as much "fixed" as possible by the time I turn it over to a professional editor -- provided that I can find one that can work with a Pages manuscript. So far all of them seem to work exclusively with Word.

I did some browsing on Amazon tonight and ordered a couple of books that I hope will give me a kickstart on Book 4. With the first three I had a pretty complete "outline" in the form of the original Castle thread posts to work from and all I had to do was cut out the dreck (of which there was a couple of barge loads!) and then fill in the blanks. With Book 4 I don't and while I know where I want to go and what needs to happen, "getting there" isn't happening and I'm out of patience as far as waiting for "inspiration" to strike is concerned. My original Castle "partner in writing crime" is still Missing In Real Life  Cry  so I'm gonna have to do this one solo.

I got the two books I was expecting that I hope will help me kickstart Book 4. I'll be reading them both plus the book I got earlier in the week as fast as my eyes will allow. [See Penth pulling a book out of her tote bag every time she has a few minutes.]

Done writing for the night. I'm cooking and I really don't want to burn dinner.
Last night I added 535 words to Book 4. Tonight I managed 1,513 for a total of 2,048 for the last two nights.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I may be pulling out of this writing slump...

Awesome! Cheesy Now I see what you meant by it being a good night!

Maybe you just needed a break from things, like I did between finishing the Legacies books and starting new stuff and shorter, less complicated ideas. Wink

Hopefully this one will get more off the ground ASAP!

I'm not adding much new material tonight. I'm mostly going through what I did yesterday and "cleaning up." I've found a few places where, in my haste, I left out an important word or two... WHOOPS! And of course there is the classic "wrong word spelled right" error that spellcheck doesn't catch. I'm also putting notes in various places as prompts telling me what I need to put in that spot so those don't count as "new material." My word count won't be very impressive tonight but I AM working on it.

I'm working on a scene very near the end of Book 4. It's slow going not only because it is a bit complicated as far as action is concerned but it's also making me cry. Doomed characters (or characters that look like they're doomed) do that to me....

I've added 486 words and I'm going to have to take a break.
For one thing, I need to think about how I want to do what comes next.
For the other, I need to stop crying.  Cry
Yeah, when I "get into" my writing, I really get into it.

Over 800 words now. Still fighting tears but I've almost have enough of this section written for me to call it "done" until it is time to edit it. I'm hoping I'll get it done tonight so I can work on another section tomorrow.

Now all I need to do is figure out how Our Heroine finds out that she has a stowaway and this section will be done. I'm working on dinner now so that bit might have to wait until tomorrow. At least it isn't likely to make me cry....

I'm done for the night. Dinner needs my attention and it's time to start winding down anyway. This last bit needs a sentence or two and I still need to have Our Heroine discover the stowaway but that can wait until tomorrow.

Today's count: 1,212 words.

I didn't add a lot today -- just 447 words but considering the weather conditions and the fact that I DID get the bit written today that I wanted to, I'm not unhappy. It's my intention to start wrestling with the part of the book that I'm finding the most difficult. I expect progress to be slow because of the difficulty of the topic but I'll keep at it until I'm satisfied.

I got the kernel of an idea for a scene last night that I'm going to work on today. It will require some rewriting of something I've already written since I intend it to be a "lead in" to that scene and I need to figure out how and why the characters involved are where they are. I'll be chewing on that this afternoon too.

I've managed to add 225 words today between chores and thundershowers. It's all dialogue since I STILL haven't figured out the setting and what sparks the conversation. The dialogue came to me yesterday and I knew that it was perfect for this spot but not how things got to this point.

Today's total was 494 words. Not my best day but I got the main dialogue for one pivotal scene written -- or at least most of it -- and did some work on another scene that comes later in the narrative. That one is going to require some research and "choreography" since I want to sound like I know what I'm talking about! Hopefully, I won't have to take a long weather related break tomorrow although if what I'm seeing on the radar tonight holds together by the time it gets here, I may be offline a lot tomorrow. *sigh* It's in the lap of the Gods and if I can't write online, I'll keep my hands busy while I chew over various ways that I can set things up.

No writing today. The memory stick I keep the books on is unplugged and in the basement due to the weather. I won't put it back in until the weather settles down. A LOT!

Yesterday was a complete wash as far as writing was concerned. By the time things settled down, I had a ton of things to do -- like wash dishes and make dinner -- and my ability to concentrate was shot. I kept checking the radar to be sure that nothing was sneaking up on us.
Today "should" be better. I'll just have to see....

Smiley.... a variation on the "obsessed stalker" theme could work in the early stages of the book before the "stalker's" real agenda is known. More Smiley "Obsessive" is a good way to describe this character's mental state later on in the book so working backward to establish that from the beginning looks promising.
