	#3514 Penthesilea The Keyholder comes to stand beside her brother. Have them taken to the Security Tower for now. No need to kill them *yet.* The guards take the musicians into custody. The two young Wolfkin follow as extra security. Penthesilea looks up at Daemon and notices an expression that could only be described as "longing". She does not need to look behind her to know that Satira has caught his attention. She was Aphrodite's Priestess for too many years not to take pity on him. I find that I've lost my taste for entertainment. I am retiring for the night. I'm sure the Lady Satira and I would appreciate your escort to my Tower.* With Satira on one side and Daemon on the other, Penthesilea leaves the Ballroom and enters her tower. She sends them on their way with a fond smile and closes her tower door behind her.*

	#3522 [Rewrite by Penthesilea] After conferring with Daemon and Satira, Torao-Akio sent them on their way. He had work to do that was best done away from the eyes of the uninitiated -- even from someone as trusted as Daemon. The wizard smiled to himself as he threw some asafoetida on the fire and the stench boiled up. There were other mixtures that banished just as well as the foul smelling herb but none that banished the curious* as well! A wizard needed his privacy and there was nothing like foul smelling smoke and lax personal hygiene to accomplish that! And, to be honest, a good deal of what he did was dangerous and he did not wish to expose the innocent -- or even the not so innocent -- to danger. At the moment, he needed to communicate with the Spirits. If there were answers to be had, They would have them. Torao-Akio prepared a small brazier with sacred woods and laced the whole with the specific herbs and powders the situation required before setting it alight. As the smoke began to take effect, Torao-Akio settled himself for the Journey. Then, the smoke lifted him free of his body..... He came back to himself some time later and started the process of fitting comfortably back into his body. His mission had been a success. He now knew what he was looking for and how to find it....

The morning had been spent at the sandtable with a tall, raven haired, gray eyed woman who, by the time she was finished, knew everything that the Lord Marshall knew about tactics and then had helped Ares plan this exercise. It was simple: his Lady was surrounded and outnumbered. He had to get to her before she was overwhelmed. He knew that the woman fighting half a mile away in Penthesilea's colors was not the Keyholder. She was an illusion, conjured for the exercise. Then he heard a female scream above the din and saw "Penthesilea" unhorsed amid a sea of foes. He howled in rage and the world went red....*

	#3524 [Rewrite by Penthesilea] Satira reflected sourly that her demonstration of what was essentially a parlor trick and intended to get her in the good graces of her gremlin guards was turning into more trouble than it was worth. When she had consented to perform the same service for any of the gremlins or orcs who wished it, she had expected maybe a dozen baskets of drinking vessels. Instead there were over fifty as every adult orc and gremlin in the area had appeared with a cup. Some farsighted souls had brought cups intended for their offspring to be given to their children when they reached drinking age. She couldn�t back out now, her position would be damaged beyond salvage if she she did that so with a sigh, she set to work. It was going to be a long day.

She probably should have warned Satira -- her brother certainly should have! -- but supplying both the gremlins and orcs with endless beer was a good political move. And now she, Keyholder Penthesilea was going to have to think about politics. The maps that Athena had sent had arrived by magick that morning, appearing in her Tower study. She had unrolled them and weighted them so they would lay flat in the storage drawers she would conjure for them. With the maps came a fat briefing packet which contained everything that her Aunt had been able to learn or guess about the situation that Penthesilea found herself in. The Gods might not be able to make an army disappear but whatever help they could give her, they would. Penthesilea sent for her Spy Master...

He appeared at her door promptly and closed it behind him at her request. Sir Michael: You wished to see me, my Lady? Penthesilea: Yes, I do. First, I want to tell you that the amulet upon which your life depends has been sent to the safest location available. I sent it to the Archdean at The University. She's put it in her personal vault. If that security is ever breached.... well. She shrugged. It is the best I can do. Sir Michael: Whatever you think best, my Lady. Penthesilea: Michael, we're in private. If you don't cut the "my Lady" nonsense at once, I'm going to drag you down to the training hall and wipe the floor with your face! Michael tried to stifle a grin and failed. Sir Michael: Okay, Penth. Is there anything else? Penthesilea: Quite a bit actually. First, I've consulted with the other knights and they are agreed that I should offer you the position of First Knight. He looks stunned. She grins. Why so surprised? You are well liked, more than competent in the areas of combat and command and I know that I can trust you. Sir Michael: Whatever you need me to do, Penth. I'll do my best. Penthesilea: I know you will, Michael. You always have. Now, I need to explain to you what I'm going to have to start doing once this immediate crisis is over. She takes him to the map table and explains. Sir Michael: It is... words fail him. Penthesilea: I know. Will you help me? Sir Michael: Of course, but... Penthesilea: You are concerned about people discovering that you are immortal. He nods. I understand, Michael, I truly do. I do not ask you to remain forever. Stay as long as you can and then, go. I do ask that when you do go, you promise some day to come back to me because I will always need someone who will speak truth to Penthesilea. Michael takes her hand in both of his and kisses it. Sir Michael: I am yours to command for as long as I live, Keyholder Penthesilea. Penthesilea: (softly) Thank you.

Then she'd dressed, endured breakfast with the suitors and had retired to her rooms as soon as she gracefully could. She had thinking to do. She remembered her conversation with her Aunt Athena. �You have assets, use them. Stop trying to do it all by yourself!� Penthesilea smiled ruefully. She did tend to depend on herself too much. It came from decades of having no one to watch her back. She simply wasn't used to thinking that help was available. As deeply as she loved her brother, he had been in her life for barely a century and for long stretches of that time, he'd been about his own business. She wasn't used to him being there. And Satira... The Keyholder tapped an index finger against her nose. Her gut was uneasy about Satira but she had nothing upon which to base her unease so, for her brother�s sake, she would allow the woman to remain in her inner council until such time as she had a good reason to banish her. Before we can deal with Leverance, his hydra must be destroyed. Penthesilea: Do you know where to find it? Torao-Akio: Not yet, my Lady. But I have been told how to search and I know what I need. Have no fear, my Lady. This thing will die. Penthesilea: In the meantime, we need to keep them off guard but how? Hmmmm... Penthesilea considered the question carefully. What would they least expect her to do? Slowly, she smiled. I�ll pretend that I�m considering the idea of an alliance marriage. At that, Daemon turned growling from where he had been staring out the window. Daemon: Are you out of your mind, Penth? To let any of them touch you? Penthesilea held up a hand to forestall her brother. Penthesilea: I�ve done worse in my time and recently. Rest easy than none of them will find his way to my bed! If they believe that I�m considering taking one of them as my husband, the assassination attempts should stop. They�ve had no luck so far and I am beginning to fear that they will try something more drastic - and a suicide bomber could probably kill me and a lot of others as well. Satira: She is right, Lovemate. There are many ways to kill in a Magick/Tech Zone. She looked at the Keyholder. I�ve heard the gossip among the servants. Leverance�s taste in lovers runs to young boys. He can function with a woman but would rather not. He is here because his King wants your land and he thinks Leverance is the man to get it, one way or another. Penthesilea: I�ve seen a lot of political maneuvering in my time. Marriage negotiations, especially involving this much real estate, can take years. I�ll need to come up with some starting points for the contract talks. Daemon: I have one. Your husband will have to bathe regularly. He cast a baleful eye at the wizard. That lets you out!

Once I have what I need from Leverance to track his hydra we will destroy it and the advantage in magick will be ours. Daemon: But not the numbers. The individual city-states each have more men under arms than we do and can conscript more. Even with Leverance taken out, they will still want this Castle. Daemon�s expression turned feral. They won�t stop until we make them stop. They want a war, we will give them one!

I will invite Lord Gallagher for a walk in the Roof Gardens before the noon meal. Arrange for two of my knights to chaperone. I'd have you do it but if I have to let him steal a kiss, I'd prefer that his head not be immediately torn off! Smiles. That would kind of defeat the whole purpose of the exercise. After that, I'll think of something suitable for the others.
