I've come up with some zingers launched by Our Heroine concerning Our Hero's failure to meet his previous "performance standards" and I've noted them. Now I need his responses and maybe a few more gut punches from Our Heroine to seal the deal. The goal is for him to arrive on the scene in a black rage which... will turn into "something else..."

Don't worry. I don't write soft core porn. The readers will know what is happening but they'll have to "fill in the blanks" with their own imaginations.

I got a few more zingers written down and while I still need Our Hero's response to most of them, I got him to the boiling mad point and thereby closed up a gap in the narrative that's been hanging around for years. I'd written that scene ages ago but didn't know how they got to that point. Now I do and while some dialogue still needs to be written, I got them where I want them -- which is naked.....
I've also killed off another character as promised back in Book 3. The beginning of the fight is written and so is the end -- with the sorry bastard being dragged off to an extremely unpleasant afterlife by Hermes -- but the particulars of the fight in the middle need to be filled in. This combat is one of several that will need special attention and some research will probably be necessary.
But not tonight. Right now, Our Heroine is facing down a dragon that's a cross between Smaug and a Chinese dragon. NOT fun.....

I'm going to need to read over the "Lady vs The Dragon" section and figure out how to kill the dragon. It will likely turn out to be less well armored than Smaug -- tough "rhino-like" hide rather than scales maybe. Otherwise, I might find myself with a lot of dead heroes which would require an extensive rewrite.....

Dragon is nearly dead. Our Heroine is hanging from its neck by her sword and her escort is attacking furiously. Once it is dead, I'll figure out how things got to that point.....

Yeah, I write out of sequence.....

The eyes have given out but I did manage to move the combat along a bit. The heroes have discovered that this dragon's hide is tough but not covered with scales so it should be "somewhat" easier to kill.

But.... not THAT easy!

This is one of the graphics I've been playing with for eventual inclusion in The Reader's Guide to Samgara. It might also end up in the larp rulebook. Getting rid of the white specks on the black and the black specks on the white is gonna be a serious pain in the posterior but at least I have the design IN the computer so it can be fooled with as needed.

I got a little more new material added today. I decided to let the dragon continue thrashing around a bit longer while I chewed on the problem of when and where to let the "cannon fodder" know that they've been working for a race of beings that regard them as food. I think I've found the right spot. I'll go over it again tomorrow and see if it still works there.

I'm working on getting some combats finished which is a little difficult at the moment since WP just jumped into my lap and is adding random characters/spaces to this post!

One fight scene is roughed in and I'm now making it more complicated/intense so Our Heroine doesn't have things too easy. I haven't really decided if Our Hero and Heroine should face off in a climatic battle at the end of the "war" part of the story or leave it the way I originally wrote it. I may have to "write around" that section and see what fits best. Leaving that section as it is and writing another combat between them is another option I'm considering.  Smiley

Still working on combats -- two of them now. One is getting close to finished, the other is getting roughed in. I tend to write the end of a combat first or nearly so and then figure out how to get there. Weird but it works for me!  Smiley

I've also noted where I need a new mass battle scene since the setting of a heartbreaking scene I've already written works better in another location.

Roughing in the Book 4 epilogue which will tie off -- temporarily at least -- a dangling loose end. I have plans for the evil sorceress Athanasia but some years need to pass between the end of Book 4 and any further adventures and since I have only a seed of an idea about what those adventures will be, it's best to establish that one of Our Heroine's greatest enemies is gonna be keeping a low profile for the foreseeable future.....

I'm putting Book 4 to bed for the night. What with the combats and epilogue, I added quite a bit today although there is still a long way to go. Oh well, I don't have a deadline and this isn't a race. "Quality over quantity" after all. I've found that writers that churn out multiple novels each year start repeating themselves in short order. The authors I admire most may produce fewer novels but the ones they do write stand the test of time.

The epilogue is about finished. It lacks one or two sentences to wrap it up. I'll get back to it after dinner which I now need to finish making. *sigh* I SO need staff!

I've proofed the epilogue a bit and did some tweaking. The last sentence still needs work but I think I'll put that aside for the rest of the night at least. I'm going to go over what I did last night and see what needs fixing and/or tweaking and maybe expanding....

I've written the scene where it is explained what the device is and what it does. I also have a pretty good idea where the scene should go and I've moved some text around to accommodate that.

Still don't have a name for it though.

I've added a bit to the part where Our Heroine commits genocide and I think it works pretty well. At least all the necessary elements are there and I "did" leave a loophole in case I ever need it. I don't think I will but you never know and I don't like not having a bit of "wiggle room." I'm getting a headache now so I think I'll head out and get ready to watch Agents of SHIELD. I still have some things to do in the kitchen....

*sigh* I should NOT let my curiosity get the better of me. Some people just need to -- as the song says -- LET IT GO! Blaming someone else for your failures is infantile and continuing to harp on it years later... well. It does NOT indicate any increase in maturity. One good thing -- at least "I" consider it a "good thing" -- about "writing solo" is that if I screw up I have no one to blame but myself. I don't waste energy telling the world how I was led astray by "evil influences". I keep my yap shut and get about the business of improving my work. *sigh* I guess some people need someone to blame when they fail. I am SO very glad that I'm not one of them!

Writing Gods willing and the cats cooperate, I should get some writing done tonight. How much is anyone's guess but I'm not running a sprint, I'm doing a marathon....

The Queen finally let me get some work done and I've managed to close a couple of gaps and work out a few things. Right now, I'm working on the lead in to the last major/war battle in the book but first, we're gonna head out for lunch.

The Queen is content to sack out on top of the cage so I'm getting some work done on the first major battle scene. I'm trying to avoid being repetitive -- which is hard -- or too gory which isn't that hard, at least not for me since this isn't a super realistic "war" novel. I'm saving the detailed fight scenes for one on one combats with specific individuals and even then I'm being more "cinematic" than "realistic". I've already written the end of the battle "wrap-up" where Our Hero and Heroine are heading back to the castle. I'm not sure yet when the next bout of "all hells breaking loose" is going to happen but it won't be more than a day and probably less. I don't want the characters or the readers to have a chance to catch their breath.....

Since I haven't decided the details of the previously mentioned battle I'm working a bit on what happens after Our Heroine makes her supreme sacrifice -- which doesn't turn out exactly as she expected. This is both good and bad, by the way. I'm starting to have trouble seeing the keyboard  -- never REALLY got the hang of touch typing -- so I may have to knock off for a while but at least I have a starting point and can get to work filling in a sizable gap in the narrative. I don't really know just how "big" this gap is since I've written the beginning of it and "end" but don't have a clue as to how much is going in between.

The Queen has just landed in my lap. Time to quit.

I've added about a page tonight. It's a scene that's been in my head for a while in rough form. I still need the "lead in" but what I've written establishes that black cats are highly prized where Our Heroine and one of her cats are which will make her easy to track for both the "Bad Guy" and Our Hero who will be in a race to find her. As I've mentioned before, I don't know how long this second section will be. If what is currently "Book 4" ends up being too long, I'll split it into two books and I've written the "break" in such a way that it won't require extensive rewriting to do that. But first things first, WRITE THE THING!
