	#5310 Penthesilea Penthesilea felt her collar being torn away and knew she had seconds before the vampire on top of her sank his fangs into her throat. She braced herself for the pain and groped for a spell that would save her and her companions. Then the vampire grabbed her by the hair and pulled her head to one side, exposing her neck. Here it comes...* she thought. The pain didn't come. Instead, with a roar of rage, Kodiak arrived! The weight pinning her to the floor disappeared as the vampire holding her turned to dust. Quickly, she scrambled to a crouch. The feeding vampire had dropped his prey to concentrate on Kodiak and Penthesilea scrambled to the fallen man. He was bleeding heavily from the neck. She pressed her fingers against the wounds and chanted a spell that would hold them closed. Then she sent the wounded man to Karika for emergency treatment. Then she looked for her beloved.*

	#5311 Rewritten by Penthesilea The wounded began to materialize in the Main Courtyard where the medical teams were waiting. Those with minor injuries were treated there while the more seriously injured were taken to the Infirmary.

	#5312 Penthesilea Kodiak stood between the wounded man and the two surviving vampires. His own fangs were gleaming in the dim light of the stable and his eyes were glowing like live coals. Penthesilea saw her vampknife on the floor and grabbed it. Her movement distracted the vampires and Kodiak took advantage. His sword flashed and another vampire died.....

	#5313 Penthesilea With a flash of thought, Kodiak ordered Penthesilea to stay clear and she obeyed. She did not want to be used as a weapon against her beloved. Instead, while keeping an eye on Kodiak and his opponent, she watched for more vampires knowing that the smell of spilled blood would draw them if any were near. The wounded man knew this as well and he was holding pressure on the wound on his arm. As soon as she could reach him, Penthesilea would heal him but she needed to touch him to do it. She growled at mild curse at the rule of the universe that required physical contact for healing spells...

	#5314 Penthesilea The last vampire was more cautious now that his companions were dead. In life he had been a large man, about fifty pounds heavier than Kodiak. The Darklord didn't care. The Darkness had risen in him and nothing or no one could oppose him. With a feral snarl, Kodiak leaped to the attack, intending to draw the last vampire away from the wounded man and his beloved. Their swords clashed and Kodiak was able to give Penthesilea the opening she needed. She rushed to the wounded man and healed him. The wound was small, in the wrist like hers, but bloody. Once the healing work was done, Penthesilea looked for Kodiak.

	#5315 Penthesilea Instinct had taken over. The swords of both men lay on the floor. Penthesilea didn't know if they had simply discarded them or if one of them had been disarmed. She simply watched as her love battled his foe in the manner of vampires. Punches, kicks and tearing fangs were their weapons. Penthesilea bit back as scream as the vampire buried his fangs in Kodiak's right biceps. The Darklord didn't seem to feel it as he gouged his opponent's eyes. The vampire released his hold on Kodiak who in turn achieved a chokehold and broke the vampire's neck! That wasn't enough to kill the creature but Kodiak was carrying a vampknife as well. He pulled it and struck and the three of them were alone in the stable. Penthesilea and the last member of her team ran to Kodiak. Penthesilea to heal his arm while the other man kept watch. As she looked up into her Lord's eyes, Penthesilea could see the Darkness burning in him still. It would have frightened a lesser woman. It did not frighten Penthesilea. This was Kodiak, whom she loved, and no part of him frightened her. As soon as the healing was complete, Kodiak threw his freshly healed arm around her and pulled her in for a quick, passionate kiss that left her breathless -- and wanting more. Unfortunately, there was still work to do but the look in her love's eyes held a promise to her. There would be more as soon as the work was done. Kodiak: Let's finish this. In agreement, the three of them left the stable to continue the cleansing of the settlement.

	#5316 Penthesilea *It didn't take long to finish hunting down the vampires. They weren't organized and had expected only minimal resistance from the settlers. The appearance of armed, determined and experienced fighters had thrown them into a panic and they were easy meat. The Castle people had taken some casualities but no deaths. Once their wounded and those from the settlement were sent back to the Castle, Penthesilea had a brief meeting with the settlement's leaders who vowed to send their pledge of loyality to the Castle's Lord and Lady at daybreak. Penthesilea could feel Kodiak's impatience with this necessary task and sympathized. She was feeling what he felt! Finally, she was able to cast the teleport spell that took them home. They appeared in front of the stables on the military side of the Castle complex. Lord Cujon saw them arrive. He did not approach his brother or Penthesilea. Cujon had ridden with his brother for many years since they were reunited and he knew what mood Kodiak was in now. He had seen his brother with countless women during that time. Of them all, Cujon thought that only Penthesilea was his brother's equal -- the true mate of his soul. Proud, stubborn and passionate were words that described them both and the Darkness that Kodiak carried within him didn't frighten her at all. Cujon had seen more than one woman flee in fear when she saw it in Kodiak's eyes and knew it for what it was. Penthesilea embraced it as she did his brother. Cujon hoped Kodiak realized how lucky he was. As Cujon watched, stablehands led their horses away and Kodiak caught Penthesilea in a close embrace, crushing her against him as he kissed her hungrily, oblivious to anyone who might be watching. Cujon smiled slightly as the couple disappeared. He would tell the Court not to expect the Lady and her Betrothed to put in an appearance any time tonight... Kodiak had used the power of his ring to bring them to what had been Penthesilea's bedchamber and was now theirs. He felt their clothing disappear as he kissed his Lady before sweeping her up into his arms and carrying her to the bed where they fell together onto the black fur spread. The hunger had both of them in its teeth and no one would see them until that hunger was fully satisfied.....

The fire that burned in them both was only slightly appeased but he would wait until she was ready to join him before beginning again. The sight of the vampire raider holding Penthesilea down had enraged him. The Darkness, in control until that point, had broken free. He had not wanted Penthesilea to see him that way. He had always been afraid that it would frighten her, as it had so many others but once they had become lovers she had done everything in her considerable power to convince him that there was no part of him that she feared. Not the Darkness. Not the Vampirism. Nothing. He finally believed her. She stirred and her fingers began to move. She looked up at him, her lips slightly parted and the hunger in her eyes. He took her mouth and gave in to the hunger that united and drove them both.....

	#5318 Salanthos Sal had not gone on the raid with Penth and the others, preferring to stay behind and help the healers when the inevitable wounded appeared. She was good, if highly destructive, in a fight - she had certainly had enough practice - but she was not used to fighting as part of a group. Undoubtedly she would have gotten in the way at a critical moment. So she preferred to stay where she knew what to do. Sal sighed tiredly as she walked down the hallway. Healing was draining for her. Her magic could speed healing to the point that what should have taken weeks healed in seconds, but the energy for that had to come from somewhere, usually her. Sometimes she envied those with conventional magic, it seemed easier for them. Shaking her head, Sal pulled her thoughts into order. She must be tired to let her mind wander so. Soundlessly, she padded onward.

	#5322 Salanthos Yeah... Sal sighs Just finished up healing for the castle wounded, but haven't gotten to the wounded brought in from the settlement yet. The worst were taken care of, but there are enough with wounds not serious enough to be immedietly taken care of, but enough to be treated, still to be healed.

The renewal and strengthing of their bloodbond was something they both anticipated. Although Kodiak no longer needed any lifeforce beyond his own to survive, Penthesilea's need to share hers with him affected him profoundly. Penthesilea looked into Kodiak's dark eyes and saw what was there. She reached up and kissed him deeply, with all the passion of her immortal soul, and then rested her head against his arm, offering him her neck. Kodiak extended his fangs and bent his head to her throat. She gasped and clung to him as he bit down and she slipped away into blissful unconsciousness in his strong arms....

	#5324 Penthesilea The sun was well up before the lovers appeared. Penthesilea's song to Apollo had been sung as usual but her appearance in the Great Hall had been delayed. Kodiak and Penthesilea went through the buffet line while accepting greetings from their friends. They sat together at the High Table and ate before the business of the day separated them.

Satira and Daemon were still holed up in Satira's rooms and Penthesilea was becoming more and more aware of her brother's discontent with every passing hour. Satira's emotions were too engaged to give Penthesilea an unbiased assessment of the situation so she sent word to the wizard to meet her in her private study.

Torao-Akio: After Daemon and Satira returned from Bar-Arack, the replicators began to deliver poisoned food to Daemon. No one else. If Satira had not been checking for poison, he would have died. The replicator technicians have all checked out as trustworthy. Penthesilea: Since all the programming and maintenance on the replicators is done by the gremlins and they are all fanatically loyal to Daemon, I would think that they are trustworthy. Torao-Akio: Lady Satira has insisted that Daemon remain in her rooms where she can protect him and she provides all the food he eats. Penthesilea: So he is completely dependent on her and, basically, under her control? Ma'ako: That is correct, my Lady. Penthesilea did not like what she was hearing. It was no wonder that her fiercely independent brother was all but howling in rage. He was in a cage. Penthesilea: Satira has proved to be extremely powerful in some areas. Torao-Akio: She is, my Lady. Especially since her return from her last visit to her Divine Patron. Penthesilea: Let me ask a delicate question. Who do you think is responsible for the attempts on my brother's life? Torao-Akio hesitated, his face troubled and then he gave Penthesilea an answer...... and a problem.

Penthesilea: (inspeaking) *The situation is extremely delicate, given the situation and the people involved.* Kodiak: (inspeaking) *I'm here if you need me, my dear.* Penthesilea: (inspeaking) *I know you are, beloved, but I'd rather not involve you or anyone else if I can avoid it. This has the potential to be sticky.*

A roar of rage blasted through her head followed by a feeling of fierce exultation that screamed FREE! It came and went in seconds and Penthesilea knew that her brother had been pushed too far. He had broken free and left the Castle. She reached for Satira mentally via the use of a small spell hoping to offer sympathy at least. The mental blow that she received as thanks for her concern nearly felled her. Then the Castle shook as Satira also took her leave.....

	#5329 Penthesilea The next thing that Penthesilea knew Kodiak was lifting her into his arms. Kodiak: What happened? Penthesilea: Daemon and Satira had a fight. He has left. When I tried to touch her mind, Satira lashed out at me and left the Castle too. Kodiak was carrying his Lady to their bed and made some choice comments about Satira on the way. Satira died young and for all that she's three thousand years old, she is very inexperienced in some matters. They will patch it up or they won't. You can't put a man like Daemon in a tower and stand guard over him. They had reached the bedchamber and Kodiak placed her in the center of the bed. The cats were in immediate attendance, gathering around and purring to relieve Penthesilea's headache. The Black Huntress climbed onto Penthesilea's chest, demanding cuddles and purring. Kodiak smiled. Kodiak: I'd stay, my dear, but I was in the middle of something and you are in good hands. He looked at his Lady's attendants. Err...paws. He leaned over and kissed her gently on the forehead. I'll be back later when you are feeling better. Penthesilea: You'd better be. He grinned devilishly at her and "stepped" away. Penthesilea smiled, closed her eyes and let the cats do their work.

She was too responsible to shirk her duties even with the promise of bedgames with her Lord as inducement! She headed for her public office. There was a stack of handfasting invitations that needed addressing on her desk.... Post # 900

	#5331 Penthesilea Two hundred and fifty invitations later, Penthesilea had to take a break. Her hand was cramping and it was affecting her handwriting. She turned her mind to another small problem. Delivering the invitations. Protocol demanded that they be hand delivered by a courier and some of the guests lived over a thousand miles away. Penthesilea once again thanked the Gods for transporters and teleportation spells. The only problem was finding couriers....

	#5332 Penthesilea Penthesilea got word that Miranda needed her for another fitting -- the reception gown, this time -- and went at once to the giant workroom the Castle's seamstresses were using. As she entered, she passed her daughters who had just finished their fittings and were headed out to put in their time addressing invitations! Penthesilea paused long enough to tell them that the three of them needed to meet later and then, gown in hand, headed for a dressing room to try it on....

	#5333 Penthesilea Penthesilea stood patiently while Miranda pinned, tucked and fussed. The shoes that Penthesilea would wear for the reception were finished and she wore them while Miranda adjusted the hem. The dress was a tad snug through the chest and that had to be adjusted and while she knew that Kodiak wouldn't mind seeing her spill out of her bodice, Penthesilea was positive that he didn't care to share the sight with any other man!! So, the adjustments were made to the bodice which then involved adjustments to the trim as well. Penthesilea used the time to think. She had a lot to think about and not all of it as pleasant as contemplating Kodiak's eyes....

	#5335 Penthesilea Once Penthesilea was freed from the fitting ordeal, she changed quickly into what she now thought of as "Court Clothes" and headed for the Great Hall. The leaders of the settlement that they had saved the night before had arrived to formally swear their loyality and that meant a formal audience and a feast later.
