She'd wait for Kodiak at a prearranged meeting spot and once he joined her, they'd "step" home for a quiet dinner and some private time. Penthesilea was looking forward to it. Life looked to be getting hectic shortly and only the Fates had a clue as to what might happen. She reached the special storeroom and went inside, looking for the missing "merchandize" that was supposed to be there. A flicker of movement at the edge of her vision alerted her and she turned in time to see the blackjack descending toward her skull...

	#4786 Penthesilea Penthesilea threw up her arm to block the blow. It landed and she felt the bone in her forearm break as she struck out at her attacker's solar plexus. Her fist slammed into body armor. Her attacker grabbed her injured arm with his free hand, causing the bones to grind painfully. Man: You'll bring a good price in the slave market, after I'm done with you, and that uppity Darklord will never know what happened to you! Nearly blinded by pain, Penthesilea stomped down on his ankle. He released her and she staggered away from him, hoping to give her injured arm a chance to mend a bit before she had to close with him again...

	#4787 Penthesilea The man swore foully and kicked the door closed behind him. Penthesilea heard a dead bolt slide home. She reached for her gun and found it gone. He had somehow removed it from her holster before she broke free. She then realized that she was in a trap that had been used before. Grimly, she clasped her hands and pulled on her injured arm, pulling the broken bone back into place. That would have occurred naturally but she didn't have time for that to happen. With the bone more or less set, it would pull itself back into place and heal. She was going to need both hands to deal with this situation. The man grinned evilly and pulled out a taser. Not again! Penthesilea thought as she prepared to evade it if she could... Before the man could fire, the door was kicked off of its hinges and Kodiak stormed into the room in black-eyed fury. The man turned and tried to fight but he was no match for the furious Darklord. Kodiak manhandled him like a child to prove that he could, got the man in a headlock and then broke his neck with an audible crack. Kodiak let the body drop and looked toward the crowd of men standing in the doorway. He pointed to Penthesilea. Kodiak: She. Is. Mine. He said emphatically. "Any one who touches her -- dies. Understood? Vigorously nodding heads attested to their complete understanding. Someone dump this carrion where it won't be found for a while. Two men, braver than the rest, came forward to drag the body away. Kodiak retrieved Penthesilea's gun and returned it to her. Are you hurt, my dear? Penthesilea: No, beloved. (inspeaking) *My arm's broken but it's healing fast.* Kodiak: (inspeaking) *Should I resurrect him and kill him again?* He was completely serious and Penthesilea knew it. Penthesilea: (inspeaking) *That won't be necessary, my love. It's the thought that counts.* (aloud) Can we go home now, beloved? Kodiak: Of course. With that, he escorted his lady from the room, the rest of the men giving them a wide berth. After what they had seen, none of them would consider taking liberties with the Darklord's woman...

	#4793 Penthesilea *Madridoor - The Warehouse* Kodiak escorted his lady from the warehouse. It was obvious to him that she was still in pain and he silently cursed the fact that her magick did not work in Madridoor. He considered them damned lucky that they had not encountered more problems than they had. Despite its glittery image, Madridoor was a damned dangerous place in which only the strong.. or the lucky... survived. Kodiak and Penthesilea entered a dark alleyway a few blocks from the warehouse and Kodiak picked her up. He could only take her with him by "stepping" if he was holding her and her feet were clear of the ground. This gave him the perfect excuse to carry her and he seized every opportunity. She cuddled close, nursing her arm and he "stepped." He had a surprise for his lady....

	At The Temple #169 Penthesilea *Penthesilea and Kodiak�s Suite at the Temple* Penthesilea had closed her eyes when Kodiak "stepped" more from pain than anything and when they arrived and he set her on her feet she opened them for her first surprise of the night. They were not in their apartment. She looked up at him. Penthesilea: Where.... Then she felt the magick flow back into her and she knew that she was whole again. Then the special feeling she got in only one place came and she knew where she was. The Temple? Kodiak: Yes, my dear. I arranged this the last time we were here. I thought that we might need a getaway. He looked down at her injured arm which she was holding against her chest. Let me have a look at that. He helped her shed her uniform jacket. The short sleeved shirt that she wore under it revealed a mass of purple and black bruising that was alarming to behold. Kodiak immediately sat her down on the love seat and began to examine her arm with experienced fingers. Penthesilea: The bone is nearly healed. I had to set it myself on the run. That's why it looks so bad. At Kodiak's inquiring look, she pantomimed how she had managed that. He frowned. It's just soft tissue damage now, beloved. I'll be fine by morning. Without a word, Kodiak went to the door and summoned the acolyte that waited in the hall. Kodiak: Please inform the High Priestess that my Lady needs a healer. Once the acolyte left on the errand, Kodiak returned to his lady. Morning, my dear, is not soon enough. You won't be in pain for a moment more than necessary if I can help it. Then he settled in beside her to wait.

	#173 Penthesilea Kodiak looks a bit uncomfortable as he glances toward the bedroom but Penthesilea can't get a clue about what he's thinking. He's gotten good at shielding his thoughts from her. So she smiles sweetly. I promise I'll rest as much as I can. We're off duty for the next eighteen hours so I should be able to get some sleep. After that, I won't lie, we expect things to get very dangerous.

	#175 Penthesilea Penthesilea: No, I think you should stay here, at least for the moment. Penthesilea and Kodiak exchange looks and Penth continues. There is a armed force in the field that intends to attack the Castle. My brother and Satira are with a force that is going to cut them off. We don't know what will happen when they engage. The force, or stragglers from it, might try to take the Temple and hold you all as hostages. If that should be attempted, you can use the Gate to take your people to the Castle or bring help from the Castle here. In either case, you need to be here to defend the Temple if needed.

I came to the Castle hoping to escape war. It doesn't look like I've done a very good job. Kodiak reaches over and squeezes her hand.

When the wounded come, they will need to tended quickly and the healers must be rested. Kodiak gives Karika a look. Kodiak: If you will excuse us, Karika. I intend for my Lady to forget battle and responsibilities for one night. And there is only one way that I can distract her! Penthesilea gives him a look and tries to swat him. He catches her hand and kisses her palm...

No, the centerpiece was the fireplace in which a cozy fire burned and in front of which lay a bed of furs of every imaginable description! Kodiak saw her reaction and laughed I thought this would please the hedonist in you, my dear! He assisted her in getting comfortable -- which wasn't hard to do! -- and stretched out beside her, just looking at her as she stoked her face with a bit of fur. She caught him looking. Penthesilea: What? Kodiak: You. I like watching you. He sat up long enough to pour two glasses of champagne. Penthesilea took hers and whispered the "Small Change" spell over it to remove the alcohol. Don't do that. Penthesilea: Why not? You know I don't like the taste of alcohol. You aren't trying to get me drunk are you, because you know it won't work. He grinned crookedly. Kodiak: Busted. Can't blame a man for trying. Penthesilea: And just why would you want me drunk, Darklord? Do you, perhaps, have designs on my virtue? The wicked look she gave him made him wonder about her* designs.* Kodiak: Hmmmm. Yes. Penthesilea: Good! She took her drink down in one swallow. If you want that, better drink it fast! Kodiak took a second to decide. Kodiak: Who needs alcohol? He threw the glass into the fireplace where it smashed and reached for his lady who leaned back into the furry nest, pulling him with her. Penthesilea: Who, indeed? Their lips met and their conversation continued by other means..... Fade to black......

	#189 Penthesilea Penthesilea & Kodiak's Suite at the Temple... Later still.... Kodiak lay before the dying fire and watched his lady sleep. He had never thought that he would love someone so much. His life before he had come to the Castle certainly had not led him to expect such a fate. Now he was to be handfasted to the most complex, fascinating and willful woman he had ever known. She stirred and snuggled deeper into the furs. Kodiak smiled. He looked toward the bed and decided that spending the night on the floor in front of the fire, while romantic, was rather foolish when a comfortable bed was at hand. He'd spent more nights than he cared to remember on the ground by a fire and knew without asking that Penthesilea had too. Carefully, so as not to wake her, he rose and turned down the bed. Then he returned to her side and gathered her up. So deeply did she sleep and so profound was her feeling of safety, she did not wake when he lifted her. Her only reaction was a tiny sound of protest as the furs slipped away and her fingers tightening on a large throw of black mink which she held in her arms. Kodiak chuckled and carried her to bed, carefully placing her on her customary side. Then he joined her, pulling her into his arms, mink fur and all, and pulling the covers over them both. She snuggled into his side like a sleepy child and, more content than he could ever remember being, Kodiak smiled and went to sleep as well.

Wrapping the mink fur throw around her -- her robe long since vanished! -- she followed her nose into the next room where Kodiak was laying out the breakfast that had just arrived. He looked up at his fur wrapped lady and smiled. Kodiak: We have time to eat and relax a bit more before we head back. I'll take us to the apartment first for fresh clothes and then to the warehouse. Penthesilea nodded. Penthesilea: I don't want to talk about it now. Kodiak smiled. Kodiak: I understand, my dear. No business until we're back in Madridoor. He came and kissed her and then they sat down to eat.
