Afternoon! It looks like I get to break in the new thread!
The Hearth Queen is better. She's more active but her breathing is still a bit rough. She may see the vet this week for a checkup just to be on the safe side.

I've been thinking about a jewelry design I want to make up. Might be kinda tricky but it should be fun to wear. I also want to make some bead earrings to match the fringe on my dance costume. I've never made bead earrings before. Need to do research!

Skywise has had a cold for the last ten days or so. He seems to be getting over it so the nasty germs are trying to move in on me! Exactly what I DO NOT NEED with "Hell Week" fast approaching! ["Hell Week" is my personal term for Thanksgiving Week since I normally have Thanksgiving and Spirit's birthday to prepare for within days of each other. Spirit wants a trumpet for her birthday. A good one. I may never sleep again.....] So I'll be fighting cold viruses tooth and nail this week. They already seem to have established a beachhead in my bronchial tubes. Smiley *Heads off to take more zinc.*
Later.

Okay. I'm officially sick.
We decided to go into town for a late lunch and to pick up a new bow saw (the one Skywise was using Friday has officially given up the ghost). I was the last one out of the house. MoonCat was in the Guest House backyard and heading around the house when she yelled "DAD! What is it??!!" and took off running. I, fearing the worst, took off too from about one hundred and fifty some feet behind her. I made it as far as the Guest House front walk about halfway between our driveway and said walk when I doubled over coughing. *sigh* Since our supplies were depleted by Skywise's bout with this bug, we loaded up on cough medicine, Fruit Breezers and aspirin at Wal-Mart.
Oh, and there wasn't anything wrong except that a herd of the neighbors cows were out and chowing down in the field across the road.

FYI: So the above post makes sense. Our house is about 350+ feet off of the road. The Guest House is about half that distance and about 30-50 feet north of our driveway. We have an excellent view of the back door of the Guest House from our front door.

In addition: Between the time I started this post and now, I went out and helped Skywise get that tree the rest of the way down. Dumb maybe but I didn't want him working on it alone and I pulled out a serious coat to wear before I went out.

Still breathing, feels like a cat is sitting on my chest. My temp is hovering around 97.8 so no fever yet. That's good. I needed to lay down for a while so I did.

I've put fabric glue on the last row of knots so for all intents and purposes, my bra is done. I'll have to wear and move in it for a while before I know if I'm going to need to put some twill tape or hem tape over the knots [could be scratchy, don't know yet] and still have to make the ornament but other than that, it's done.
I've been thinking about how to cover the belt and how to disguise the seam that is going to have to go right down the middle of the front. Thank the Gods for trims! Aside from being damned hard to handle, the skirt is going okay although I'm not looking forward to wrestling the back panel into submission. The front panel wants to slide all over the place and the 12 feet long section is gonna be even worse! Oh well. There is a reason why I won't be making a lot of chiffon skirts and that is it!!

Gotta start thinking about dinner. Fortunately, the chicken is already thawing. It is just a matter of waiting until it's thawed enough to get apart!

Morning. I'm up and reasonably well. I didn't cough any during the night and haven't coughed much since I got up.  I'm gonna be a good girl today and maybe I'll get off lightly this time.
The Hearth Queen is doing better. She thinks that she wants to go outside and lay in the sun. Not going to happen, way too chilly out there! She's going to have to make do with the sun that comes in the sliding glass door!

*Heads off to make tea.*

Update: I'm coughing a bit more but not so much that I need to take something. My temperature has dropped back to 97.2 so I think I'll put on a sweater and lay down for a while. I didn't clean up the kitchen last night after dinner so I have that to do before I fix dinner so some rest is in order.
I've finished the front panel of my dance skirt so I'm happy about that.
Later.

Back. I slept for a couple of hours and the War Queen decided to snuggle with me for a while so that was good.  She thinks she wants out now but it isn't happening. It's after dark and the temp is dropping. Speaking of temp, I haven't checked mine yet. The coughing is still more than manageable, my nose is a bit stuffy and my ears are ringing. Other than some fatigue, I feel pretty good.
The dream I had while napping imparted some useful information that I need to get to work on implementing. I may be able to manage it now, finally.
And this isn't getting the kitchen cleaned up! If I take it slow, I shouldn't wear myself out too much.
Later.

Back. Dishes are done and I'm starting dinner.  I just took a test in the back of the book that came today [Libertarianism A Primer by David Boaz] and apparently, I'm about as libertarian as you can get.

*giggle* I just gave Moonie the same quiz that I took. She scored higher on the libertarian scale than I did!

Dinner will be ready in ten minutes. I probably should eat since all I've felt like eating today is birthday cake.

Skywise is home and I'm gonna go collapse with a good book. The Hearth Queen is on Moonie's bed. She's been sleeping a lot today. I think that she might have overextended herself earlier today.

Morning. I think. *checks clock on computer* Yep. Morning. ick....
The Hearth Queen and I are still under the weather. I think we'll both spend the day resting. It's cold, damp and cloudy today with some sort of rain event predicted every day until Friday. Oh happy day. I'm going to go make some tea and see if I can perk up a bit. I slept but feel like I didn't. I just got up after an hour of twitching in bed trying to go back to sleep. *sigh* I'll probably nap later.*goes off to make tea*

Well, we finally said "Enough of this poop!" and made the Hearth Queen an appointment with the vet for tomorrow at 11. Having heard that, she got up and hopped up to look out of the window. She is currently settled down watching it drizzle. I think she may be trying to convince us that she doesn't need to go but I'm thinking that a good round of antibiotics might be exactly what she needs to get over this whatever she has.

Whatever it is that I have, it is exhausting me. I haven't done anything worth mentioning today and I'm exhausted. I just got up after lying down for over two hours and I'm still tired.

The Hearth Queen is a bit more active but she's STILL going to the vet tomorrow. We are anticipating 7 to 10 days of poking/squirting antibiotics down her throat.  That's always interesting.

I'm going to try to find a little something to eat -- really haven't ate that much the last couple of days -- and see if that perks me up any. I'm still going to have to fix dinner at some point tonight.

Morning. The Hearth Queen and I are still sick. We'll be leaving for the vet's in about 45 minutes. Hopefully, we will return with a diagnosis and antibiotics for her and get her on the mend.

I had hoped that once the election was over, the general level of hostility would go down. No such luck, looks like. I think I may just hide for the next ten years.....

We're back from the vet. The news isn't good and we had to leave the Queen there for more treatment. I'll post more later and Moonie said she was going to make a post too.

MoonCat here. I am so worried about the Hearth Queen and I don't know if she'll ever get well soon. The prognosis looks grim and we are faced with the possibility of losing her. Just when we are coping with Samson's death, this had to happen! I know I'm supposed to think positive, but it's easier said than done. My mind keeps straying to the worst-case scenario when there is absolutely no hope of the Hearth Queen getting better. I want her to live and get better, but a part of me has already given up hope. It's horrible to think that your cat is out there suffering while you wait helplessly to see if anything is going to be alright. She has been with me for ten years and she has become a part of our lives. We can't imagine life without her. I wish I could do something to help her get better or at least ease her suffering.

Smiley to Moonie.

The reason the Hearth Queen was having trouble breathing was because her lungs were being compressed by fluid in her chest cavity. The vet removed a lot of it while we were there and ran through the possible causes for it. He gave her a diuretic and antibiotics while we were there and she'll be staying there for at least a few days. Whether and how much she improves will tell the vet a bit more about what caused the fluid to collect. We will probably have to take her to a specialist to get an exact diagnosis -- which we will do. There is one possible cause that is treatable with surgery and of the possible causes, that one is what we are hoping for.  We've already decided that no decision will be made about euthanasia until we have an exact diagnosis and we know what other options we have.
The Hearth Queen is and always has been a Queen and a fighter. She will leave this life on her terms and not because some human decided that she was too much trouble to care for.  We will not permit her to suffer or be in pain and she will let us know when she's ready if it comes to that.
Today I'm going to cry out my worry and my grief and my anger at the unfairness of it all. And if anyone says that "life isn't fair" expect to be bitchslapped into the next millenium! I'm in no mood for platitudes and neither is anyone else here.  To be blunt, right now, all I care about is my family -- the Bloodkin that have crossed over, my Heartkin and my Furkin -- the rest of the world can go to hell and judging from the news, it's well on its way.  Many people, prophets and seers and visionaries of all sorts, say that we're at the end of an age, that the next few years will see the destruction (in some form) of this reality and the creation of a new one, possibly more than one depending on who you read. All we want is a reality that is free of grief and where those we have lost so suddenly and so cruelly are waiting for us. Forgive me if I say "Bring on the new reality! We're ready to leave this one!"
I may or may not be on later. I'll be checking on the Hearth Queen between 5 and 6 tonight. If I'm not back, everyone be safe and remember to tell those you care about that you love them. Life in this world is unpredictable and the next 'goodbye' could be the last...

I talked to the vet's office about ninety minutes ago. The Hearth Queen is still alive and she's doing a little better than she was when we left her. She still hasn't started eating but Moonie says that she ate and drank a little this morning before Skywise and I got up. I told them that we'd call back in the morning to see how she is. It's going to be a long night.
I've been trying to work on my dance belt but I've run into a snag. I know what to do about it. I just don't feel like tackling it tonight. I think I'll probably take some aspirin for my headache and curl up with the War Queen for a while.

Good morning and the morning is good.
The Hearth Queen made it through the night. The vet hasn't had to drain her chest again and she is eating. She may be well enough to come home this evening -- afternoon actually since Skywise has the late shift and will leave here at 4:30 p.m.  We're to call them back at 2 and see. (Which I would have been doing anyway!)  We still don't know what caused this crisis. That's the next step, finding out what happened.
After we got the news, Skywise told Moonie and me that the Queen came to him in the night and said "I'll be alright." He can't say if it was a dream or not. He does say that she has a very beautiful female voice.  I said "Of course she does. She's a beautiful female."
Thank you, Bast.

We’re back from town with the Hearth Queen. We’ve got a bunch of medications she has to take -- well three actually -- one is an antibiotic that she will take for about 10 days and the other two she will likely take for the rest of her life. The vet thinks that it is a heart problem but can’t be sure. He’s basing his diagnosis on how she’s responded to treatment. To really know, she would need a EKG and ultrasound tests that we aren’t going to get into right this minute.
She couldn’t wait to get out of her carrier once we were home and after assuring herself that she was home, she headed straight for her self feeder. She chowed down and then drank a LOT of water. The water in town probably tasted strange to her and I know that while the stuff they fed her at the vet’s was highly nutritious, it wasn’t her Iams Kitten Chow. She even played with the SunLord a little bit. Mostly, she’s just resting and the house doesn’t feel as empty as it did last night.

Crud.
Double crud!
MAXIMUM, EXTREME CRUD!!!!!

I'm sick. Not my usual "chest congestion and cough" sick which I can deal with quite nicely. OH NO! I woke up this morning with a stuffy nose -- unusual for me -- and I spent most of the morning sneezing. Not one or two sneezes at a time but BUNCHES of them.  I finally hunted up some antihistamine and took the lowest recommended dose. Didn't help. About twenty minutes ago I noticed that my normally cool skin was warm to the touch. I dug out the thermometer and took my temp. Sure enough, I'm running nearly three degrees above my normal  -- which runs between 97.6 and 97.8. So I've taken a zinc, more antihistamine and aspirin for the temp. If I didn't have to stay up until 3 tonight, I might let the temp run for a bit but I've got a late night and I have to make pizzas tonight. And did I mention that Skywise picks up his check tonight and tomorrow is "paycheck shopping day?"  *sigh* As I said, CRUD!!!
