Having decided that a "murder" is going to be "attempted murder" instead, some serious rewriting of Chapter 13 is necessary. Fortunately, having removed some extraneous and unnecessary Smiley from the chapter, it is now too short in Times New Roman (which is the "submission font" and a smaller font than I'm doing the "working" manuscript in) so I can add several pages without the chapter becoming unacceptably long. I just have to go through and see how much of the original murder I can salvage with rewriting since it's pretty good if I do say so myself!

I've made good progress with the rewrite and I've quit for the night. The cognitive functions are starting to slow down a bit. I have a feeling I'm going to make an early night of it.

Plugging away on the "attempted murder" in Chapter 13. A sentence here, a tweak there. It's slow but it IS getting written. I'm currently working on how the would-be murderer finds out that her intended victims would soon be out of reach and how she gets into their locked apartment. How SHE gets dead is already written! I've been wanting to do that character in for some time. Just needed the right situation and I FINALLY have it!   Smiley

Working on Chapter 13. The attempted murder is about the way I want it and I've moved on to the blowing things up part. I'm not going into a lot of detail because, unlike a James Bond movie, this covert operation is going to go smoothly with only one unexpected situation which Our Heroine's Brother will use to his advantage. It will mean another short, maybe gruesome death (depends on how you feel about werelions killing a man like a gazelle...) and that will be that for this particular subplot which I will be SO glad to have out of the way. From this point (end of Chapter 13) the book is all about the handfasting of the Hero and Heroine with some vampire raiders thrown in to keep things in perspective. It also lays some groundwork for Book 4....

I am, without question or a shadow of a doubt, pathetically grateful for "drag and drop". Chapter 12 is getting another makeover and 13 is seeing some shuffling too. I don't "think" that 11 will be affected but the jury is still out on that. Once I have the whole book done, more shuffling may be in the cards but I won't know until I can sit down with the whole manuscript in front of me and can read it, start to finish.
The belief that someone can just sit down and bang out a novel in 90 days that sells immediately and becomes an instant best seller is enough to make gag with uncontrolled laughter.....

One good thing about washing dishes, aside from the obvious benefit of clean dishes, is that, since it doesn't require much in the way of brainpower, it gives you valuable "thinking time." I have solved some of my most knotty writing problems while washing dishes whether it was the "right" name for a character or how a difficult scene should go. At least while I'm at the sink I'm being productive while I'm thinking which for someone who has the responsibilities of "wife" and "mother" is a very good thing!

Having spent THE ENTIRE AFTERNOON/EVENING tracking down incidents and getting them in logical order I can now go back to bloody mayhem and blowing things up.
And my eyes are burning and my eyelids are twitching.
I think that is a hint...
*sigh* Oh well, I'll get an early start tomorrow.....

I use that time for "mulling over things" too... Dishes, scrubbing the toilet, during my walks, while we're running errands and even when in bed at night if I can't sleep... If I'm not around the computer and have my cell phone handy (say if we're running errands), I put the ideas on that in the regular or voice memos so I don't forget it and input it into the Ideas file when I'm able to get on my computer! LOL

Chapter 13 is almost done. I'm going to have to take a break until my eyelids stop twitching but after that, I'll read it over and see how it looks.

Between loads of laundry, a sink full of dishes and making dinner, I have managed to almost finish Chapter 13. I found several gaps in the narrative that needed filling in and I think I've found them all. I am now trying to get the would-be murderer into her target's apartment....

I've been thinking...
"What if...."
.. you were presented with proof that everything you had ever been taught and accepted as truth about the world was a lie?

... you found out that every major institution in your country/world from governments, financial institutions, entertainment, military, religious organizations, etc. from highest to lowest had been infiltrated by an entity/organization/whatever whose only goal was NOT your well being and the well being of the race as a whole but the total domination/control/enslavement of the world?

... the people/nations/individuals that you had been taught from birth to regard as "the enemy" were actually the only ones who could save you and the world?

In short, what if someone laid out proof that everything you "know" was a lie, proof that was too convincing, too overwhelming, too TRUE to ignore or dismiss, what would you do? How would you react? Would you be flexible enough, brave enough or "evolved" enough (for want of a better term) to admit that you had been thoroughly fooled and victimized and build a new worldview based on the new information? Or would you desperately try to discredit the overwhelming evidence to preserve your worldview and thereby avoid feeling totally unjustified "shame" at being fooled and used?

Yeah, I'm thinking of turning "the world" on its ear come Book 4 and I'm thinking hard about those questions.

Working on Book 1, Chapter 3 again.

"To be" and the forms thereof are making my head hurt tonight but I have only about 10 pages left in Chapter 3 so I'm going to push on....

Chapter 4 is finished and considerably tighter than it was although I didn't lose any pages in the process. With luck, I'll get Chapter 5 finished tonight. I may get to Chapter 6 if the game gets too nerve wracking for me although that would be more likely if the Colts were in the game.

I appear to be on a roll....
No, "the Game" is not compelling our undivided attention. I'm working and Skywise is in the shower.

Well, I got into Chapter 6 and my eyes started to twitch so, since I did get a good deal done today, I decided to pack it in for the night.

Chapter 7 is proofed and I rewrote it a little. Some of my original dialogue no longer fit and it wasn't until tonight that I really saw it. I may even go back and take the rewritten dialogue out altogether. I'm a little too brainfried to make that decision tonight but everything else is done in that chapter.

Chapter 8 is finished. I don't know if I'll work on 9 tonight or not. I'm more than halfway through the book and more importantly at the moment, a small tabby cat named Warrior Princess keeps climbing into my lap and demanding my complete and undivided attention which makes intense reading difficult!

I've been doing a little research lately. I've been needing to "cast" a role in Book 4 which calls for a beautiful, innocent-looking "girl next door" type.  I didn't want to go with the obvious "blue eyed, blonde" since that "type" has been done to death so I've been on the lookout for dark-eyed girls with dark brown or black hair and I've finally found the girl I want. She's currently 19 but she sure looks "old enough" on the cover of this month's Cosmo. "Selena Gomez" will do nicely, I do believe. Now all I need is to collect some reference photos. Thank the Gods for Google!

Last night, while proofing Chapter 10 I found a glaring oversight which I've been chewing on all day even when I wasn't at the keyboard. I've fixed the problem by adding text in two places and I am now heading for the end of Chapter 10. Chapter 11 starts off with Our Hero getting Our Heroine happily naked and since it is some of the first new material I wrote for Book 1 it may be tweaked and expanded a bit....

Chapters 10 and 11 are proofed with 94 pages left to go. I "should" be through with this by Wednesday. Then I'm going to pull out the last hard copy I made and compare it to the final draft I'm working on now looking for those pesky formatting errors. Once I've done THAT, I'll make a double spaced copy and print it out. THEN, I'll make copies in Pages and hope that I don't lose my mind....

35 pages left. Gods, kids, cats and eyeballs willing, I'll finish this stage of the proofing tonight.  I'll likely pick up a couple of reams of paper to print the double spaced hardcopy tomorrow. I "should" have enough ink on hand...
