HOLY CRAP!!! Shocked

I have high BP, so does my husband and both of our families have history of it... My mom has had it since I was in my teens and my father had it along with Type II diabetes, and Daddy had to have a low salt intake along with it. I've cut back on salty stuff too but not as much as I should...

Meds DO help but daily exercise like Skywise does each day while he's walking around and cutting back on fatty and salty stuff help even more is RIGHT. VEGGIES AND FRUITS, lots of them, all colors of the rainbow. Whole grains are best for heart health. Cut back on the sugar too, just to be safe. Bake, steam, braise or broil stuff... Canola and olive oil are best for heart health too. I use only extra virgin olive oil here, because we do not like canola oil.

I was diagnosed with tachycardia, high BP AND high cholesterol when I was only 34 years old... I don't eat a lot of fatty stuff, either. If I eat anything deep fried, I puke nowadays.

My mom was diagnosed over 20 years ago... She'll be 69 years old in August and is still going strong.

I'm on Amazon looking at cookbooks. I can't use "salt substitute" with the medication that Skywise is taking so I'm going to have to find alternatives. I have a book of make at home spice blends but the author is a salt addict. One blend that came out really well after I reformulated it started out with 3/4 cup of salt as the base! Smiley

Here, I make my own blends too... BUT I use a lot of spicy stuff to up the flavor punch because we like spicy foods. LOL I also use a LOT of dried herbs like thyme, oregano, rosemary, marjoram, etc. Dried chipolte powder and thyme are MUSTS for any spice blend I make!

Just play around with different things Penth and you'll hit on a winner, or more than one!

Okay, so I FINALLY got the initial and more detailed first and second rereads/edits done on what I wrote today. Things look good for a ROUGH draft so far... I need to do a LOT of tweaking/polishing/editing/adding, etc but the foundation is great so far.

My eyes are really starting to protest and I have a 9 year old who wants his computer time... I'm going to head out for now and relax for a bit before I dive into a little work after the guys crash. Cat is wanting some cuddle time too, she was SO GOOD today... She did tell me off (the sassy purrbaby! LOL) but didn't run me over once, nor did I find her on the monitor during my writing time at all today. She is one loveable kitty!

I've been on Amazon looking at home blood pressure monitors. I'm thinking of getting one so I can check his bp myself at home. I'll get a digital one if I do, easier for me to read.

Those are awesome. Our doc gave us one and we use it a lot between monthly visits. It'll help you keep track of things to report to the doctor too.

Hmm, should I put that scene before or after the stuff I wrote up today? I have to get Chapter 23 wrapped up somehow and that's teh only way I can do it one way or another, so it's not a big "SAY WHAT?" later on for the reader.....  Smiley

I'm betting a LOT of the fast food places won't pass the grade sodium wise at all. Most of them either have high sodium and/or high MSG, which is just as bad as sodium in a lot of ways. I don't eat out a lot because of that.

The rare time we do eat out, we generally get something from the local grocery store's takeout counter, and their stuff has less than half the sodium in it that somewhere like MacDonald's does for example, and I generally get a salad with low calorie/fat dressing (French or Ranch) to be ultra safe.

Some docs would say once in a while is okay but others will tell you to avoid fast food and restaurants pretty much altogether. Talk to your doctor about how much is "moderation", if at all, for Skywise, and she'll probably tell you one way or another.

I remember from reading Homecoming! Cheesy I have to be VERY careful when he's home and I have the main file open, especially certain "parts" of it... I won't go NEAR what is now Chapter 16 when he's home, for GOOD REASON! All I'm saying is that it's pretty much NOT child friendly, from start to finish......  Smiley Smiley
