Yesterday and today were good days in terms of finding parts. Yesterday I found a suitable pan (12 inch deep dish pizza) for the synchrotron base on Amazon which I ordered and after much searching and expending of megabytes, I found the hardware used to attach the proton gun/wand to the pack -- at a reasonable price, no less.

The pizza pans haven’t arrived yet but the hardware -- known as “V-hooks” -- came today. So..... iz happy.

Just ordered a black ABS box that I think will do for one of the “difficult” parts of the pack. Hope it works. If it doesn’t I’ll have a nice black plastic box. Maybe the basis for a new style PKE meter but that’s for later....

The ball valves have arrived via Fed Ex and I expect the name tags to be in today’s mail. Smiley

I spent yesterday trying to find out where a specific part mentioned in the Ghostbusters Fan forum was located and lost several sanity points in the process. Today I spent some megabytes and found a photo of a proton pack without the Faraday cage and WITH the part in question. It turns out that the pack is the “Mark II” pack used in the “Theater Bust” scenes and most of the reference photos available are of the Mark III pack used in the Times Square battle scenes. Yes, Holtzmann, the slightly mad scientist/engineer, redesigned and rebuilt the proton packs twice after the first one was destroyed in the subway tunnel. I suspect that the “gotta build the MOST ACCURATE prop replica EVAR!” guys are going nuts..... They’ll need to build at least the last two and with all the copper required, be expensive as all hell. Mine’s gonna be pricey but I’m cutting what corners I can.

I have another item incoming -- the black ABS box -- that I hope I can use for a part that is driving people crazy. I ordered some PVC sheet stock today so I can start the “”hands on” design work.

I put the name tag on my uniform last night. I was hoping to work on hemming the pant legs today but my right hand -- strained when I replaced the “no ghost” patch more than a week ago -- still hurts so I’ll be spending that time holding an ice pack.

I've been relentlessly researching the Ghostbuster reboot proton pack and wand. I'm collecting the "hard to find" parts and materials as I find them. I'm swearing at sites where interesting photos were at one time posted but don't show up when the page loads no matter what tricks I try. I'm swearing even harder at people who say they've done this and that and DO post pictures but neglect to post little details like MEASUREMENTS! This leaves me staring at pictures to try to figure out how large or small something is. This is especially "fun" when there's nothing in the picture to establish scale. And don't get me started on the WAND. Aside from the post the film's director made giving the dimensions of the prop, there is damned little information out there on how to build it. The center of the device has six sides. I have found clear, detailed pictures of three of them. If building the pack is going to be "challenging" -- and it is! -- then building the wand is gonna be pure, undiluted HELL!
If I survive building this thing and meet the requirements, I'm seriously thinking of starting an officially registered Ghostbusters group.
They say that learning and doing new things keeps your brain "young" and healthy. If so, then I'm through with this, my brain will be teen-aged -- God help the world......

The box arrived but it is a little too large so after much searching, I ordered another one. On the other hand the PVC sheet stock I ordered arrived and I’m just waiting to get the PVC plumbing pieces I need to start scheming. The v-hooks used to attach the proton wands to the pack when not in use have also arrived. I’ve been prowling the GBfans forum relentlessly and I’m finding a lot of photos of fan-built packs -- some of which are amazing -- and finding sources for hard to find parts. One part in particular that I need may be available from a member of the forum. The only problem is that I’ll have to join to even find out how much he wants for the part since he put the link in his signature and no one but members can access that. [smiley=”grrrr”] I’ve had my fill of forums -- to put it mildly -- but I’ll probably have to join this one at least long enough to get that “impossible to find” part.

The idea of forming my own officially recognized GB fan club is looking more and more attractive. There is an active unit in Indianapolis but they seem to be confining their activities to the city and points north. My group would be active in several mostly rural counties to the south. There isn’t an active unit between Indianapolis and Evansville. I don’t want all of that, just the nearby counties. The main reason for wanting my own group is that there’s a lot of outright hate for Ghostbusters 2016 out there and frankly, I’ve had my fill of dealing with misogynistic, microcephalic, immature basement dwelling trolls whose idea of expressing an opinion is a vomiting emoji. In a club I control I wouldn’t have to put up with that and neither would any fan -- female or male -- of the new movie. In an existing unit that I did NOT control, I might have to put up with misogynistic attitudes and... I would NOT put up with them which would probably result in my leaving the group. So yeah, being the “franchise holder” has definite appeal.

I want FOUR plasma ignition chambers or a REALLY good 3D printer -- which ever is cheapest!

Four Hydrogen Ionization Chambers with Proton Injectors would be nice too....

What's on my mind:
Chasing down parts -- not to mention assembly instructions -- for my proton pack.
Needing to find someone with a 3-D printer so I can print a plasma ignition chamber for my proton gun.
Very, VERY early stage plans for starting a Ghostbusters franchise which will involve stepping out of my "comfort zone" by a long stride.
The fact that I'm gonna need to get off the computer and pack my right hand in ice 'cause it is STILL hurting and has been since the first of the month.
Looking forward to seeing Rogue One: A STAR WARS Story on Sunday.
The hunt for a vehicle to replace our '02 Taurus which "breathed its last" getting Skywise home one last time.
The cat under the table that is insisting -- with his claws -- that I pet him.
And that's not a complete list......

I may have finally found a place that will make custom Ghostbusters patches at a reasonable price. I’ll have to order 50 of them so I want to get an estimate from them before I make a definite decision but the prices they have for their ready made patches are reasonable -- between .75 and .85 cents apiece so I’m hopeful. I still haven’t found anyone that will make the ONE “specialist” embroidered patch I want. That may end up as a DIY project.

The fabric I ordered for the backpack straps for the pack arrived today. I don’t know how well it will work. I’ll have to run some tests.

I got the quote on the “franchise patches” that I asked for. It comes to $1.80 per patch plus shipping which is a LOT better than the other quotes I was seeing. I’m thinking that I’ll order them next week or after the first.

In other news: It was a good thing that I got my Ghostbuster's uniform when I did. Amazon is now listing it as "Currently unavailable" which is a serious bummer! Fortunately, Simplicity had a cheap GB uniform pattern during the Halloween season that I bought several copies of. Since I have mine already, I'll be able to alter the Simplicity pattern to match the "official" uniform for the Adored Hubby and the girls. [The pattern has NO pockets!] The problem will be finding matching fabric. At least once I shorten mine, I'll have a sample to take along when I go shopping. Who knows, I'm going to need a lot of it (three more adult uniforms) maybe I can get it special ordered.....

This afternoon I found two better patterns to alter -- one for Skywise and one for the girls. They won’t need nearly as much altering which is good. Finding fabric is still gonna be a problem though.

Observation: It’s damned hard to type or use the mouse while wearing a thumb

Currently poking around Martinsville, Indiana via the internet looking at meeting rooms. To get a Ghostbusters franchise off the ground -- not to mention "up and running" -- we'll need a place to meet. "Security concerns" aside, our house is too small and out of the way to be practical as a meeting place. So..... meeting room. It would be nice to have a regular meeting place but that may have to wait.

I contacted the “patch maker” by email about ordering. I just heard back and I’ll be calling them with my payment information tomorrow.

I was poking around Amazon today and found out that one of the places -- or maybe the same place that was supplying two vendors -- that was making Ghostbusters coveralls has started production again. This is a good thing! I’ll be able to order outfits for Skywise and the girls and all I’ll have to do is make the belts (they don’t include them) and do the alterations -- saves me a TON of work finding fabric, notions and such. Plus, everything “should” match.

The ¼ inch armature wire I ordered arrived today. It should work perfectly to build the frame for the faraday cage. Saturday we’re going to hit Home Depot and Lowes (if necessary) looking for proton pack parts and probably head back to Rural King on Monday or Tuesday for more parts -- they have a nice selection of copper fittings...

I also peeked into the bank’s community room which is big enough, has more than enough parking space -- being in one of the town’s strip malls -- and exterior entrances. I’ll have to find out the particulars...

I ordered the patches this afternoon. The guy I talked to didn’t know when they’d be shipped but there’s no hurry. Their site says 6 weeks so it will probably be the middle of February although I hope it will be a little sooner. I’m eager to see them.

I’ll be getting my list together tomorrow for Saturday’s shopping trip. Either Sunday or Monday I’ll get everyone measured for their uniforms and get them ordered. I’ll also get the facebook page set up so I can resister our “franchise” which I will do before Tuesday. *deep breath* This is WAY out of my “comfort zone”, being as introverted as I am but Skywise and Moonie are on board and I’m pretty sure that Spirit is too so.... here we go.....

The things I need to build my proton pack are accumulating. A 2 foot by 2 foot sheet of ¼ in. thick ABS plastic arrived today, the ¼ in. diameter armature wire arrived a couple of days ago and we're heading for Home Depot in the morning to look for more parts, an Adjustable Tube Cutter and a two setting heat gun. My manual dexterity is still impaired but it's getting better. I've figured out how at least some of the parts go together -- the guys posting on the Ghostbusters forum are rather short on "assembly instructions" -- but this first pack will be slow going since I'll be figuring it out as I go. The next three packs should go faster....

Skywise had the day off yesterday so we went prowling for proton pack parts. I wasn’t able to find the 2 to 4 inch connector that I need at Home Depot and we were going to go to Lowe’s on Saturday but we found it at the local Ace Hardware. They only had one but we’ll keep checking back until we have enough for all the packs. Skywise wants me to make a list if the other stuff we need to find.

I have GOT to get everyone measured so I can order their uniforms. I already have the Ghostbusters “no ghost” patches and I got name patches for everyone when I got mine -- gotta break on shipping -- so the sooner I order the sooner I can get started on the alterations. The darn things come from Asia and I swear they must think we all have VERY long legs. At least the one “I” got has very long legs!

I noticed a discrepancy between the proton pack -- displayed at the San Diego Comic Con -- being used as a reference for all the prop builders’ packs and the packs that actually appear in the Times Square Battle scene in the movie. I’ve already watched the relevant section twice this evening and may have to go for a third time since something else has occurred to me but since it’s nearly 11 pm I probably should eat something.....

After four viewings of the Time Square Battle and one of the Theater Bust last night I’ve discovered that there is a discrepancy concerning the liquid helium fill valve the installation of which makes NO sense! The model displayed at the San Diego Comic Con had the handle of the fill valve pointed upward. In the movie, it points down. Of course that is the “open” position in both configurations which makes NO sense but that’s the way they did it. *head desk* Bad enough some of the parts lists for the Mark III have parts listed that are part of the Mark II. What tipped me off is that during the Theater Bust which uses the Mark II, the center of the synchrotron is lit but during the Times Square Battle, using the Mark III, the center is dark. What has happened is that people who hadn’t seen the movie -- and some didn’t wish to - built their packs without seeing them in operation. It appears that while Holtzmann made significant changes to other parts for the Mark III pack, the only thing she did to the synchrotron is add the faraday cage which appears to block the light coming from the center. So they’re building packs that look like what’s used in the climax until the “lights” come on.

I’m not going to tell them. The ones that refuse to see the movie will never notice.

I spent some megabytes tracking down another small but vital part today and found out that a link supplied by one of the builders I’m using for reference isn’t there anymore. *sigh* I’ll have to find a substitute.

Smiley The patches arrived today nearly a month sooner than I was expecting!

I found a short (20 in.) length of stainless steel braided tube at Lowes that I’ll use to connect the liquid helium fill valve to the cryogen storage. I’m not sure how I’m going to attach it but I’ll be looking for some sort of ⅜ in. valve like thing to use since another “hidden” valve would explain why the visible valve is always open....

I also found -- online -- a substitute for what that expired link led to -- the “on/trigger” button on the proton gun.

Started studying Arduino today. It’s gonna take me a while to “get” it. It’s been a long time since I studied coding but at least the subject isn’t completely foreign to me.

I tracked down and priced all the knobs and switches I’ll need for the pack. Fortunately the same place has them all so I’m going to order enough for all four packs. I might get a break on the postage that way.

I’ve also figured out where the “on/off” switch for the pack is, how the intensity of the proton beam is increased to the “ghostly discorporation” level and how the proton gun is powered up and fired. Not bad for an hour of semi-hard thinking.

NOW I have to figure out how to wire the “on” switch so it actually turns on the lights in the pack and the same for the proton gun since the gun isn’t always “on” when the pack is powered up.

Finally got my hands on a heat gun today which will make bending plastic a lot easier. I also picked up a 32 GB flash drive to keep everything Ghostbuster on. I downloaded a couple of 3-D printer files this very early morning and I need to back them up somewhere. I’ll put them on a completely separate drive when I’m ready to have them printed.

After discussing it with Skywise last night, I ordered four 48 inch long hoses I need to connect the proton packs to the proton guns. Next up is find speaker wire in the right colors: red, white and blue.

The hoses arrived today - three 48 inch ones and one 60 inch one. I’ve already informed the vendor that I’ll be sending the 60 inch one back and that I expect a full refund. He said, contritely, that he’d send me a mailing label asap. I hope the postage is on him. Having had no luck in Rural King today, I ordered a couple of things through amazon. I HATE having to pay postage AND not being able to use cash but I like running all over looking for something and not finding what I’m looking for even less. What I got today at Rural King today will have to be returned as it won’t work....

I spent some megabytes tonight finding out if the aluminum tubes I need for the proton gun exist and are available on amazon. They do and are so I have a “last ditch” option for them if I can’t find them anywhere else. So far I haven’t but I’ll keep looking since I won’t need them for a while. Of course, when/if I find them during one of our shopping trips, I’ll get enough for all four packs....
