She sighed and pulled on a robe as she directed that the messenger be admitted. She hid her surprise when she saw who the messenger was. Her father would not have sent this woman if the instructions he had for her had not been of the utmost importance and requiring more than the usual secrecy. Jasmine dismissed her attendants and motioned the woman to silence until she had verified that they were alone.

They have a bond that is, even now, profoundly deep and strong. The only advantage you have is that he has not yet taken her to bed. Once that happens, nothing will part them. You must have full and complete control of him before Penthesilea is free of Iftal�s Curse.�

They were on the verge of organizing an old fashioned massive grid search when their grandfather appeared and gave them what facts he had. Grief stricken, they went to their beds on his orders. There was nothing that they could do for her at the moment but when she needed them, they would have to be ready.

She can run no more. Her boots are long since shredded and discarded and her feet are a mass of cuts and bruises, her clothes are in tatters, her beautiful hair is matted with gore and filth. MORE! The Hunger howls at her -- too slow! She can't run, she can barely stand. Soon, even that will be impossible. Her grief and regret are insupportable and inescapable... MORE LIFE! The winds shifts, bringing a smell to her nose. Something dead. Painfully, she rises and moves toward the source of the smell.....

	#2896 DarkLord Kodiak Needing a break. DK decides to take a walk back to the castle. Walking into to his quarters he kicks a nightstand across the room. Trying to contain himself sits on the edge of his bed. Seemingly staring into space starts to think of what he had done. Taking his sword from his sheath contemplates spilling his blood to get rid of his guilt. After awhile realizing that is not helping anything lays his sword at his feet. And seemingly stares at the floor.

She has reached the limits of her strength but still the Hunger screams for MORE... Finally, she sees what she has smelled -- the remains of a deer, several days old. The carrion birds feast on it and Penthesilea's eyes glow. With strength fueled by the Hunger, she springs, catching two of the birds before they can escape. Desperately, she sinks her fangs into the first, sucking greedily at the blood even as she cries in regret and anguish. There is no relief as she casts the body aside and feeds on the second. She wants to gag. She cannot. The Hunger drives her without mercy. She licks the squirming insects from her fingers and frantically seeks more. Desperate, she buries her face in the reeking entrails of the deer, seeking more life... Finally, finally...her degradation is complete. She has reached the limits of her grief and regret. The Hunger lets her go. She pulls away from the carcass and collapses to await whatever fate is to be hers. Her last thought before oblivion...I'm sorry, Kodiak, I am so sorry.....

He remembered the night that she had finally caught him at his lurking and dragged him into the light and had looked up at him, with her laughing eyes and her happy giggles. He had known then that she would upset his peace. That she would make a shambles of his well ordered, self centered life. And she had. He remembered the long nights when they had kept each other company when neither of them could sleep. They had talked and laughed and had become friends. He�d never had a friend like Penthesilea before, a beautiful desirable woman. Women weren�t for being friends with. They were for using for pleasure and discarding when they became tiresome or possessive. There were, after all, others begging for the chance to fill his bed. Legions of pretty, empty headed dolls who thought that their bodies and bed skills were enough to keep him interested. Penthesilea was cursed. She was forbidden lovers on the pain of the man�s death. Only the undead could touch her without dying and those sorts of lovers were dangerous. Penthesilea had known from the beginning that she could never be his life. She had not wanted to fall in love with him, knowing that nothing but pain could come of it. But she had fallen in love with him, whether he wanted to admit it or not, and she had known that loving him could mean his death because the Goddess who had cursed her was not bound to leave him alive if She discovered Penthesilea�s love for him. So, she had sacrificed herself to save him. And now, because of him, she was an insane animal feeding on vermin and doomed to remain so unless someone gave her the mercy stroke.... Who was he to be worth such suffering? Such love?

His soul howled to search for his sister but their father had already told him that it was no use. Even if he found her, he could not free her from her curse. So Daemon resolved to sit and drink until the pain was dulled. Then he would sleep and when he awoke, he would go in search of his sister. If he could not free her he would run at her side as a lion or a wolf and protect her from further harm...

In the morning she would declare that she had received a revelation from her Gods. Then Mar-Nek would arrange for Penthesilea to be captured and returned to the Castle and Satira would �lift� the curse. Penthesilea would be free and grateful as would her brother and Satira would be well on her way to a position of power and influence in the Keyholder�s household. Satira smiled. Everything was going according to plan.

	#2909 [Rewritten by Penthesilea] Kodiak continued to stare at his sword as if in a trance, consumed by his guilt. Darklords did what was needed. They followed their own code which, while harsh, was fair. A Darklord�s oath of service, once given, bound that Darklord until he died or was released from his vow. He had promised to protect Penthesilea. He had made that promise freely, certain that the Gods had brought him to her for that purpose. He would have gladly died for her and nearly had a couple of times. He had sworn to protect her and now she ran mad because of him.
