It's too hot (currently 82 degrees) and too humid for early April.
There is a cold front expected.
All hell is going to break loose...
Oh happy day.... Smiley Smiley

This storm: http://www.kansascity.com/2011/04/22/2819498/heavy-storms-batter-st-louis-area.h... is heading this way. I'm praying that Skywise gets home (in 2 hours or less) before it hits AND that it weakens before it gets here.

The storm is moving into the western part of the state.
Skywise "should" be home in an hour.
It's gonna be a long night.

And we have a Tornado Watch. The bright spot is that it expires in a hour...

The radar for central Indiana is completely clear at the moment. I haven't checked farther west and south yet -- the wind has been out of the south all day -- but so far so good.

The Tornado Watch has expired and, so far, a new one hasn't been issued. Right now, I'm waiting for the huge blob of weather to the southwest to move in and for Skywise to get home. I hope he gets here before it does. We've had a bit over 24 hours without rain.

Excellent question!
The Jet stream is the likely culprit, bringing cool/cold air down this way from western Canada. When it hits warm/humid air coming up from the Gulf of Mexico, it rains and if we're REAL unlucky, we have major thunderstorms and tornadoes. When there isn't enough warm humid air to make it rain, it just gets cold. I expected to have put my sweaters away by now. No such luck.

That would do it!

I thought we'd have at least the majority of the sweaters and such put away here too but they're still out. I'm still wearing my fuzzy socks constantly and normally, I'm wearing the flip flops this time of year. It's driving me nuts!!

Oh joy, oh bliss, oh Smiley

We have a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 8 or 9 pm tonight. Whoever typed up the warning on the ABC affiliate doesn't seem to realize that Indiana is in the Eastern time zone and not Central, hence the confusion. *sigh* Either way, this afternoon's weather has the potential to get lively....

I hear thunder.
This is NOT a good thing.
The storms are moving from west southwest to east northeast and they are "right next door." I'm going to head out for a while and get things battened down. The radar returns are currently in the green/yellow/lt. orange/orange range.  There was some red and that magenta foolishness while this storm was in Illinois but that has faded.
Everyone keep safe and I'll be back when conditions permit. Gotta LOVE Indiana weather in the spring!!

So far, so good. I "think" that the worst is past us but I won't be breathing entirely easy until the Watch expires at 9. Yeah, they figured it out...
