	#5049 Penthesilea Penthesilea was halfway across when she saw three more vampires come onto the catwalk in front of her. With her two original pursuers still behind her, that left only one avenue of escape. Without hestitation, she vaulted over the railing of the catwalk, fell a few feet and grabbed a cable that stretched between a point on the ceiling twenty feet away and some unseen point below the catwalk. She began to climb it, hand over hand. Then.... somewhere below her, it broke....

	#5054 Penthesilea Penthesilea felt the cable break, felt herself start to swing out toward the other catwalk and pumped herself into the swing. She hoped the men she was swinging toward were fast on the uptake or this would get messy. At the farthest point of her swing, she let go....

	#5060 Salanthos Sal eased the door open as quietly as she could. The first the guard knew of her was a quiet thunk as her knife sailed through the air and slid into his back. He dropped heavily to his knees and sprawled an the floor, instantly dead. The two conversing slaves looked up at the noise, and stared at Sal, wide-eyed. Sal bent to rifle through the guard's pockets, looking for the key. The guy had been a bit of a pack rat, apparently, his pockets were stuffed full of everything from chewing gum to bits of string. With a muttered "aha!" Sal dug the keycard out, dumping stuff on the floor.

	#5062 Penthesilea Hassan was strong, he had been a warrior before his death and rebirth, but the impact of Penthesilea�s body staggered him and threw them both against the opposite rail and for a second, they teetered. Fortunately, Brockton was there. He grabbed Hassan, who had a firm grip on Penthesilea, and kept them both from going over. Hassan set Penthesilea on her feet and looked back the way she had come. The thwarted vampires were screaming at them and one was using a radio. Dante saw that as well and with one well placed shot, destroyed the radio. Dante: That won�t stop them for long. We should go. Hassan: Yes, my friend. We should! And with no further delay, they did!

She tried to contact Kodiak to see if he had joined her on the ship but the only information she could get from the bloodbond was that he was still sleeping -- or unconscious -- and not aboard the ship. That made her cranky. Not because Kodiak was sleeping while she was busting her tail but because she knew that if he was still sleeping something was wrong and she needed to be with him. So, when the firefight started, Penthesilea was really in the mood!

Sal manages to unlock the door. Distant alarms have been going off, backing up her statement I'll get you off, to one of the lifeboats. Once we get to land, you're free. You can go anywhere you please. By the way, what's your name? Slave: You can call me Mattie. The door swings open, they all get out of the cage You're really going to let us go? Sal: I said so, and don't lie. You'll be free. goes to the door, looks into the corridor No one's here. We need to get to the lifeboats.

She hoped no one would notice as she dug into the wound with her fingers and pulled the bullet out. She pulled it out and tossed it aside. The bleeding immediately slowed and then stopped. She looked around. They were still being shot at. She pulled her gun. Time to get to work...

	#5075 Penthesilea After a few exchanges of gunfire it was obvious what the crew intended to do -- injure the escaped prisoners sufficiently to recapture them. That was why they were using firearms instead of crossbows. Penthesilea's fingers itched for a crossbow... Then she saw how to get one. But she would need help. She managed to get to Brockton Greathead's position and he looked at her in surprise when she joined him. She grinned. Penthesilea: I need to get there she pointed.* Think you can help? The huge vampire looked at her and then at the indicated point and then he grinned too....

	#5078 Penthesilea It took only moments to work out the details. The only tricky parts were that Brockton would have to stand up in full view of the crew and that Penth would need a running start. With the others providing covering fire that sent the crew temporarily to cover, Brockton stood up and cupped his hands as Penth ran toward him. He stooped, caught her foot in his hands and launched her into the air!

	#5080 Penthesilea It was unfortunately necessary for Penthesilea to change direction in order to get where she needed to go. However, as luck would have it, one of the metal supports holding up the catwalk was handy. As Penth reached it, she grabbed it with one hand and swung herself around it, achieving a ninety degree change in direction. With her other hand, she pulled one of two special knives she carried as she descended. She was about to land in a mess of vampires and she was going to need it...

Someone, somewhere, was making quite a ruckus, Sal thought as yet another crew member hurried past the room they had ducked into. She could hear gunshots, far off. 	#5085 Penthesilea Penthesilea's arrival so startled the vampires into whose midst she had landed that she gained critical seconds in which to act. And act she did. The knife in her hand had a standard guard and grip but the blade was a round wooden rod sharpened to a point and reinforced with a steel rod in its core. Without hesitation, she slammed her knife into the nearest vampire's back, piercing his heart. He fell to dust around it and she went for another kill even as she pulled her second "vampknife" from her leg sheath. That vampire also fell to dust. A third grabbed for her. She ducked under his arm and stabbed him under the arm, the wooden blade missing his ribs and reaching his heart. By this time, the vampires knew that death was in their midst and they stopped firing on the escaped prisoners to concentrate on the woman who was killing them. One put his rifle to his shoulder and aimed. Without hesitation, Penthesilea threw one of her knives hitting him dead in the heart. She turned and staked another vamp sneaking up behind her. And another. And another.....

	#5087 Salanthos Sal paused at one of the inconspicuous doors to the cargo hold. She listened hard - the sounds of fighting seemed to be coming from overhead, as if whoever was fighting was above them, but to the side. Perhaps they were inside the hold, on one of the upper walks, or perhaps they were truly up, on the deck. Sal debated bypassing the hold altogether. Going along the hold, parallel to the corridor, meant they could cut out all of the hall except the bit right before the stairs. The noise, though, was worrisome. Sal swiftly opened the door a bit for a quick look inside.

	#5088 Penthesilea Working with only one knife was too slow. Penthesilea quickly stabbed two vampires to get some space. She then sheathed her vampknife and pulled her ninja sword. With a savage grin, she waded back into the fray, lopping off any arm that came to close, usually following it with the owner's head!

	#5089 Penthesilea In short order, Penthesilea is the proud owner of several crossbows that are no longer needed by their former owners. She scrambles down to the others to distribute the loot. Thus armed, they continue toward the lifeboat deck.

	#5093 Salanthos Heavy machinery was grouped on the far side of the hold. Some was still running, as if it had just been in use. On the near side, heavy pallets were stacked near the wall. The noises of fighting seemed to have stopped, so Sal lead the others through the hold.

	#5099 Penthesilea "thwap" The crossbow bolt thudded home and the vampire it struck fell to dust. The group moved past the remains without glancing down. Penthesilea scooped up the bolt as she passed and reloaded her crossbow. She watched Hassan and Brockton and suspected that they were feeling the same thing she was. Unease. The opposition, which had been heavy, had suddenly thinned. Granted, she had made heavy inroads in the crew but they should still have been meeting heavy opposition. Either something more pressing required the crew's attention -- not something she cared to contemplate -- or a trap was being laid. She didn't much care for that thought either.....

	#5100 Penthesilea The group moved through the passageways as quickly as they could. Suddenly, vampires armed with crossbows burst into the corridor behind them. Penthesilea saw one aim and fire. The target was Hassan. It would hit his heart. Instinctively, Penthesilea threw herself into the line of fire, catching the bolt in her left shoulder. With a roar of rage, Hassan fired his own crossbow, killing the vampire that had shot Penthesilea. But he was not alone and more were coming. Brockton swept Penthesilea off of her feet and they ran....

	#5108 Penthesilea The first thing Penthesilea did was pull the bolt from her shoulder. The wound would close quickly once it was out and she didn't really want to test the self-control of the vampires she was with by continuing to bleed. She wanted Brockton to put her down but there was no time. Suddenly, their foes were everywhere and both Penthesilea and Hassan realized that they were being herded but there was nothing they could do. There was no place to take cover and only one way to go -- the open hatch directly ahead of them.....

	#5110 Salanthos They quickly reached the stairs without difficulty. Sal paused and looked up them apprehensively. She couldn't lift her injured right leg high enough to climb normally. She scowled, and as Mattie and the other slaves looked on in amusement, she placed her hands on the grimy step and hopped up, climbing with her bad leg held stiff, away from the stairs. It was difficult on her injured shoulder as well, but she was managing. Her makeshift staff she dragged, holding it in her teeth until Mattie took it and handed it to one of the others to carry. Mattie: Not very dignified whispers Sal: ruefully no, but it works. I'm getting there. Mattie: How did you get injured, anyway? Sal: In one of the holds. there was this beast - Mattie: That beast? you fought it? and won? Sal: surprised Yes, I won. you knew of that creature? Mattie: We all knew it. Seven of us came on board the ship, not six. Sal nodded with sympathy They climbed in silence nearly to the top. The door at the stair end was closed. About to open it, Sal chacked abruptly as footsteps could be heard just beyond the door.

	#5113 Penthesilea They charged through the hatch and found themselves in a large empty hold. Without warning, the hatch clanged shut behind them. Penthesilea was not surprised. Put me down. Slowly, Brockton placed her on her feet. In front of them were twenty crewmen armed with guns. On the catwalk above them, Keil stood laughing. Keil: Shoot them! But take the humans alive! The crewmen raised their rifles...

	#5116 Penthesilea The ship continued on its course for the mainland regardless of the turmoil aboard it. Finally, it was close enough and down in a hold, Penthesilea felt the magick come back... Quickly, she stepped in front of the men. Gentlemen, get behind me and stay there! Hassan started to protest. Then he saw her hands. Hassan: Blessings of Ishtar! He breathed.Do as she says!! The men fell back and then there was no more time, Penthesilea threw a shield around the vampires behind her and then let her spell loose! Pure, intense LIGHT! blasted out from her body. LIGHT with the same properties as sunlight. Every vampire on the hold floor that stood in front of her died. With a snarl, she saw that Keil had escaped her blast and was vanishing through a hatch. She would give chase but not before she finished what she had come to do. Penthesilea: Time to go, gentlemen. With a muttered spell she sent each man to a place where he would be safe. For most of them, it was their own homes. Then she teleported herself to the catwalk and dived after Keil. She saw him moving through the room ahead of her and followed. Too late, she saw the short sword in his hand. He threw it and it struck her squarely in the abdomen. Clutching the blade, she sank to the floor. Not daring to come too close, Keil snarled. Keil: You have really ruined things for me. Now, I have to disappear. But I'll be back, stronger than ever while you, you will be DEAD! He pulled a remote from his pocket and pressed a button on it. Deep within the bowels of the ship a bomb exploded. The whole ship shook and distant screams could be heard. The PA system began to blare "Abandon ship!" If you are lucky, you'll die before you drown! Then, eager to make his own escape, he ran. Left alone, Penthesilea pulled the sword from her body and swore. She was too weak to follow him. He would have to wait for another day. There was only one thing she could do now as she felt the ship shudder and begin turn on its side. She held one hand to her still bleeding midsection and cast her spell -- a teleport spell to bring her to her beloved.* Penthesilea: I'm coming, Kodiak, I'm coming. She breathed as the spell took hold and she passed out.
