Still in her black gown, the Keyholder drifts through the room like a ghost, a pensive expression on her face. She goes out the terrace doors, past the Pub and out of the southern gate -- walking out into the night as if in a trance.

	#1961 Penthesilea The Training Hall Stripped to the waist, Lord Duncan vents his formidable rage on a heavy bag, held steady by two of Penthesilea's knights, who are having considerable difficulty holding it steady. Finally, the bag bursts under the assault and Lord Duncan turns away. Aphrodite, still in disguise, stands behind him. Lord Duncan: It's my fault. I should have been with her. Aphrodite: No one expected her to be attacked directly. Lord Duncan: She is so formidable -- so damned independent! -- that I forget that she can still be hurt. That a powerful enough spell can affect her. That a vampire can drain her nearly to death! Lord Duncan's eyes flash fire, fortunately, only Aphrodite is there to see. Aphrodite: Her immortality is the only thing that saved her life. Her body is replacing the blood loss but now she is addicted to a vampire's kiss and somewhere out there, is a vampire addicted to the blood of an immortal. Lord Duncan: I know! And once the sun goes down, she will be trying to get to him -- I'm assuming the vampire is male -- or he will be trying to get to her. We have to assume that whoever it is, he or she has already gained admittance to the Castle or has an agent here. Aphrodite: You have to take charge of the Castle. The girls are perceived as too young. Penthesilea would want us to protect her people. If the vampire can't get to her, he'll go after someone else. Lord Duncan: I'll issue the orders. No one out after sunset except the Nightkin. They will have to handle the patrols. Maybe we'll get lucky and they will find this thing.

	#1964 [Rewritten by Penthesilea] The Castle is a beehive of activity as everyone rushes to carry out Lord Duncan�s orders and secure everything before nightfall... Meanwhile, in the city of Hidden Bay... The warrior Grai had been enjoying a well deserved break from his travels in the technological paradise known as Hidden Bay as a guest of Lord Duncan when a feeling of unease began to creep over him. It took a few hours to pin down the cause but once it became clear what the source was, he wasted no time. Penthesilea needed him and she needed him immediately! Without further ado, he went to His Lordship�s motor pool and commandeered a long range flier. He threw his gear in the back, plotted a course to the Castle that avoided those areas that would cause his transport to crash and blasted full throttle for the Castle. He prayed he would be in time.

She must not be allowed to become a vampire,� Coral asked as they entered the elevator that would take them to the tower�s ground floor. �We agree on that! We�ll get our weapons, sneak back into her rooms and wait for the vampire to show. Then we kill him. She will thank us when she is in her right mind again. And father will be more than pleased.�

In moments, her faithful guardians, Jasmine and Coral, are sleeping peacefully and Penthesilea throws off the bedcovers. She looks around for the black gown. He loves that gown! He told her how beautiful she was in it.... Then she realizes that it would have been taken away for cleaning. She must have it back! No, the voice in her mind whispers, wear something else -- just come to me, beloved. She grabs the first clothes at hand -- pants and a loose shirt. Socks and boots. Then, she is out the secret door! Down to the ground floor and out the hidden door into the night! She can hear the sounds of battle and for the first time in her life, she ignores them. He is waiting for her. She knows where he is waiting. She begins to run. She tops a small rise and sees him below her in shadow. Tall. Dark. Dressed in black from head to foot. "I'm coming, my lord," she whispers, knowing he can hear her. She descends the rise and runs into his welcoming arms. They kiss. His lips are cold. She doesn't care. She has enough warmth for them both. She feels the pinch as he finds her neck. She feels her life flow into him. She is loved. She is safe. She will never be lonely again. "Darklord" she whispers as the world goes dark......

She raises the alarm and a quick search finds Jasmine and Coral sleep spelled in the next room and no sign of the Keyholder. One of the Castle�s mages breaks the spell and the two women wake up.
