Went shopping today.  Smiley I got a target, armguard, a package of target points -- I get some broadheads later -- and a few arrows [Easton STALKER 2117. Just call me "Black Arrow"! Smiley ]  I'll get more arrows and the rest of the gear I need later.

I couldn't resist. I went out before sundown and fired my bow. I don't have the target set up yet. It's an inexpensive box/foam type. I'll get a bag type later once I have build a frame for it.  I have a book of PVC projects around here somewhere that should have something suitable in it. So anyway, I just went out to where I'm going to set up the range and fired. [I can't use it for a handgun range due to the presence of a 500 gallon propane tank on the south edge of the space. Hot lead and propane don't mix....  Smiley And if I stand where I can't possibly hit the tank, I'm shooting toward the road. Another really bad idea. ] It felt good and the arrows went straight. I hope to get a lot of practice in before the weather gets too cold and nasty and I have to stop until Spring.

hehehehehe I got a quiver and more arrows today. The quiver isn't exactly what I want but it is good enough for now and I can use it as a prototype for one I'll design myself.

I got some more arrows on Sunday and some bowstring wax. They only had 4 arrows of the type I'm using left so I got them all. LOL And I was able to find out what size bowstring my new baby takes. I'm going to get some spares so I can have them on hand. The only thing I really need now is a finger guard. We're about to head into town and I'll check around.

We're back. No finger guards but I did get enough arrows for the target points I had left. I figured that it would be much easier to store the points on arrows! hehehehehehe And I've started looking at small broadheads. I don't plan on hunting with bow and arrow -- If I'm hunting, it is because my family needs the meat and if things are that dire, I'll likely be using a rifle. -- but I want to know what shooting broadheads "feels" like. So, I'll probably pick up a couple packages of them at some point. And, of course, I'll need a suitable target since the broadheads I'm looking at make nice messy one inch holes....

I set up my target and shot a round this morning. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. I'm definitely gonna need a shooting glove or finger tabs. After the first round, my fingers were a tiny bit sore and I had a tiny blood blister. I've got my eye on a back quiver which I think will work better than the belt one I have now. Can't help it, I'm a traditionalist. The quiver belongs on the back. After all, if it is good enough for Robin Hood.

I've "googled" home firing range designs and equipment to see what can be done about setting up a (gun) firing range here at home. My neighbors don't seem to have a problem with shooting at home. Maybe I'm just more concerned with safety than they are....

I understand completely!  When I was a kid I made bows out of green branches and string and played "Robin Hood" out at the edge of the woods. I was shooting from a fairly short range today. As my accuracy improves, I'll increase the distance to the target.

well, i'm definately getting one, and with the money i'm getting from the work i'm doing waitressing at the local pub, i should be able to afford one...i'm probably gonna get a recurve bow first, and then when i've got the hang of it a compound and maybe a longbow.  i've got to find a local supplier to get my draw and bow height sorted before i hunt though

My bow is an inexpensive fiberglass recurve, 25/30 pound draw which is just right for me. I couldn't see spending hundreds for a bow to get back in practice with. And I'll probably only "upgrade" if I decide to get into some sort of competitive shooting.
And yes, I'll post a picture of it when I get around to taking one!  Grin I want to put her name on her first.

well i'm only wanting a cheap bow to start with, but i haven't a clue what my ideal draw or bow size is so i need to find it out before i look online.
the great thing about bows is that you dont need any sort of liscence for them, which made me smile earlier when i said...
"imagine if someone tried to rob my house, and suddenly i appeared at the top of the stairs all robin hood like...i think that would scare any burgular enough to peg it one"

Yep, considering the gun laws in your part of the world having a bow could be a good idea. Of course, you would want a nice, wide broadhead on your arrow...

well a normal arrow at point blank range from the top or the stairs or window would do a fair bit of damage too

I'd more than likely knock the person up and wait for the cops to get there...if i had a bow, i'd shoot the person in the leg..but chuck some arrows around him to make it look like it was a lucky shot

I'm afraid that anyone breaking into my house would be taken away in a bodybag if I could manage it. Save the county some money... lol

Unfortunately, you can't assume that someone breaking in only intends to steal, sad to say.

That is a fairly common reaction to finding an intruder in one's house.

I've had plenty of people who have gotten on my nerves, who then as soon as i turned around, ran away apologising...all because of the look on my face...I also don't know my own strength, and several times have hurt people with gentle punches or slaps, that had no effort or swing put into them...so it's 5 times more pain when i get floss
